I'm really glad I ended my love affair with Joan Barreda Bort a few years ago after having my heart repeatedly trampled by him. If I hadn't, his boneheaded move to not stop at the refueling zone, his subsequent running out of gas, then putting himself in the chopper due to health issues from a concussion 2 days prior would've been the last straw anyway. It doesn't bother me. It doesn't matter how blindingly fast he is, or how much charisma he has. I'm over it. Who cares if he was top 5 on a Honda and riding strong? Not me. Like I said, it's over between us. I don't care anymore...

seriously, Mr JBB’s and Honda’s day yesterday was hard to believe ... inexplicable deja vu-ish Honda collapse.

And hard to fathom, what with Faria at the helm now. I guess I have to take JBB at his word that the previous concussion was the reason. Having suffered a pretty good head injury in 2005 which still causes me issues from time to time, I can understand it's nothing to take lightly. Good thing I don't care anymore or anything.

So I'm thinking Dakar needs a better concussion protocol. With the airbag vests I wonder if we will see less brutal injuries that also have concussions, but we didn't hear about them before because broken bones are more interesting. With the airbags they aren't getting as badly broken but still getting concussed.

I get its the rider's choice to compete, but IMHO its too big a price to pay, especially later in life. I hope they come up with some gizmo in the helmet that registers the hits and triggers some medical intervention before being allowed to continue. Clearly JBB was riding at top competition pace with his head screwed on loose. That is some scary stuff right there. I bet his career is over.

Ummmmmm... did KTM flip the bill for the medical staff this year and we are seeing the fruits of their investment with TWO Honda riders out for concussion protocols? Did Sunderland get checked out? This smells fishy to me.

I'm sure to ruffle some folks feathers with my opinion that this is too big an event to pull out with only a minor concussion. It simply means too much, sometimes once in a lifetime position. Nacho was in position to possibly win the biggest event in his life. Bang Bang Barreda going out two days after his crash? I don't buy it.

I'm not arguing against science, the danger of concussions, or its long term affects. I know first hand, suffered multiples ones over the years from Football and Lacrosse. Felt the lingering affects of a bad one and continued to play with some minor ones. I know what they feel like. If this were possibly the culmination of a lifetimes work in racing.... I'd be riding with a minor one unless I was throwing up in my helmet.

If its the riders choice, so be it. But if it isn't, I have an issue.

In the meantime, Ricky looks positioned well to ride the YO YO's sling shot in tomorrow's stage assuming they don't reverse order. Go

And Skyler F'ing Howes! If he doesn't get a factory ride next year, I'll never eat French Cheese again.

Good little watch on how much it cost Skler to get to Dakar this year and what little he has left (no car or even motorcycle.)

Just try to remember the good times.

I am pretty sure that his missing the gas stop and running out of gas was an indication of the dingy-ness from the concussion. I would prefer not to believe it was a planned strategy. Time will tell.

This last day, being a real race day instead of past "parade type" last days will be very interesting. At least 124 miles of it.
