Cycle World print edition ends as Octane buys Bonnier digital assets

https://www.revzilla.com/common-trea...digital-assets

It's sad to see Cycle World go, but I honestly can't say I'm surprised. I haven't been subscribed to their print editions for a while now, and the online presence of Cycle World and Motorcyclist has been far outclassed by content creators like Revzilla's Common Tread, 44Teeth, etc. Hopefully Octane is able to keep the Cycle World name alive in the digital era.

Mods, feel free to move/remove if this is the wrong place for it.

Hmmm. Quote below by Jason Guss, CEO of Octane, makes me believe this might be a step toward online motorcycle purchasing.

"When combined with Octane's financing platform and dealership partners, consumers will soon be able to go directly from researching their dream vehicle to owning it, in a fast, seamless process."

I noticed that as well! Interesting concept; I think CSC is already doing online ordering, although I've never personally seen one so I don't know what volume they're moving. I think the dealer model will stick around for a long while, but who knows, maybe Octane is ahead of the curve and will bring Cycle World and Motorcyclist along with it.

If October is the last one, they own me four more issues.

I'll be curious if there is a refund for the ones I paid for and will never receive.

Same boat, If they send a refund check, it will go with the one I saved from City Bike.

What a left handed collection.

So they will be on par with all the random product "review" sites that then happen to have an amazon partner link to the product they are reviewing for you to purchase (and them to get their cut)

They'll probably sub another mag in there. I was getting "4X4 Truck Nut" or something like that after one of the other mags folded.

Sad, but a sign of the times. When it went to 4 issues a year I let my subscription from 1965 run out. Anyone else old enough to yearly Cycle World shows in LA. Enjoyed them as a teenager.

WTF, if digital magazines are going to look like this page of
"explaining" I'm out.
The pop ups, videos, banners, all that commotion going on, jacking up my quiet, contemplative, reading time.

Well, it's an optimistic report from a long time survivor in the MC publishing business. He addresses some valid points and I think has made a good case for the change. I hope it works out as planned.

I still miss Cycle however.

Cycle Magazine was definitely better than Cycle World. At least they moved Kevin Cameron over. I had to subscribe to Dirt Rider to get Ed Hertfelder.
