Alex Zanardi discusses the hand controls he uses for the Daytona 24-hour

Racer Alex Zanardi, who lost both legs in a crash during an Indy Car in Austria race two decades ago, shows how he uses modified controls to race and is able to share the car with other drivers for endurance races. Zanardi has always been a great racer and he pioneered the pass-in-the-dirt line at the Corkscrew years before Rossi or Marquez ever considered it.

Side note: with Fernando Alonso competing this year, the Daytona 24 Hour is attracting more interest than it has in a while. I'll probably post more about the race in this thread if I can find more good video content.

Allesandro was my favorite driver in the ‘90s. The wife and I were on the inside of the Corkscrew and saw “The Pass” from 75’ away. Everyone went crazy.

Not only did he return to auto racing just a few years after losing his legs, he took up hand-cycling and has won several Gold Medals at the last two Paralympics.

Bonus cool point: he has a bunch of different prosthetics (driving, cycling, swimming(!)) but admitted the ones he likes the most are “the ones that make me taller than my wife”.

Love that guy!
