Day time running light dead. Can I...?

Can I get pulled over for that??
My gut says no. They are not required.

To fix/replace is over a grand. I would rather hold off, but if it is a tickets or offense I will bite the bullet. Thanks in advance.

Unless you're talking about a motorcycle there is no law in California that DRL are required.

If you are talking about a motorcycle: all motocycles must have a headlight on when the engine is running.

I've ridden all over the state ... and into other states with my head light OFF.
I only switch light off if it's super cold and I'm running elec. jacket/grips.

The little DR has very low output, so in daylight, I switch off the head light to avoid dead battery when running accessories. But if running those fast, narrow two lane roads through the Cent. Valley ... I run headlight no matter what and switch off the elec gear.

YES ... technically, Police can pull you over. But in my experience it's unlikely unless you're doing something else to get LEO's attention.

If you DO get pulled ... it's just a "Fix It" ticket ... does NOT go on your record, insurance is not notified ... so just drive. (but what do you do at night?)

$1000 to fix a burnt bulb?
Must be a Rolls or Bentley or something ... or you need to find a different mechanic. My guy can do it for $60 or less. (Wife just had 3 lights replaced on her Volvo for that. (one headlight, one tail, one side marker)

Yup... Caddy.

Not sure if I can turn them both off. I will screw around and find out if that is possible.

Seems like a lot of money for it. My clutch is starting to lose fluid so I know that will need to be done somewhat soon (65K miles now). There is no sign of any leaks in the system BTW. I figured I would bite the bullet when I have to do the clutch.

I would think it'd be an option in your console control system, like it is on most Fords.

A grand to fix a running light??!! Sounds like overpriced factory parts and dealer labor.

If it's the light itself, can a used one be acquired? And then install yourself or pay someone else to do it?

I'd also check on some forums dedicated to your particular car and see if anyone else has tackled this.

Good luck!

Technically there is a VC section for all lights in working order, but you generally will not get stopped or cited for that. If one is out and other working, Id just pop hood and disconnect working DRL, should be pretty easy to access bulb plug and disconnect. As others mentioned, not required by law to have them on so otherwise you should be good.

One of the DRL on my GMC Canyon was out, and I started noticing that a lot of Chevy trucks had the same issue (red car syndrome). Since it seemed to be a common malady I poked around and found that the terminals in the bulb socket weren't making contact with the bulb itself. Pulled it apart and squished the metal tabs closer together, put it back the way it goes and voila, working DRL.
Now I scoff at the suckas with one eye rollin towards me.

I'd definitely poke around under the hood if they're charging you a grand to fix it.

It's probably all labor costs. Some vehicles require removing the entire front bumper just to replace a headlight like a BMW X3. So I can see the same with some DRL.

Hey Budman,

Hmmmm, 65k, running light out, needs clutch, probably brake pads-n-rotors, tires, and supercharger too...

Trade ya my K1300S for your Caddy.
You know you really wanted one in the fastest color!

If your really wanting to pull that headlight yourself this may help.

youtu.be/VleBX21Erbo

Now if it's a Wagon I'll toss in an extra grand just to sweeten the deal!

Oh, wait... what color is your "V"?
