Question What California Motorcycle Insurance did you choose, and, more importantly, why?

// , Hi, there, I figure while we're doing reviews and recommendations, we might as well bring up the financial accessories to the gear, like motorcycle insurance.

I'm curious what an informal survey of our insurance companies might show.

As for me, personally, I'm looking for something affordable, reliable, and a good complement to an AMA membership.

Did you ever file a claim?

Did you get road side assistance, and did you ever have to use it?

That. I have an umbrella liability policy with Liberty Mutual, so I try to minimize the insurance expense.

I've never needed to file a claim in 41 years of riding. Luck, I know, and i have already won the gamble.

Geico, they were the cheapest at the time, also my car is under them.

I can attest that they renewal has either stayed the same price or decreased by a few bucks over time.

Anyone have any experience switching? I heard it is almost always cheaper to shop around every few years.

Like others here. I switched from Progressive to Geico. It was significantly cheaper for more coverage and the addition of multi bike.

Results so far:
GEICO x 9
PROGRESSIVE x 2
USAA x 1
LIBERTY MUTUAL x 1
STATE FARM x 1

Perhaps it's open for dispute whether GEICO is the best, or provides better service, but apparently they're pretty popular on the BARF!

I decided to go with them, at least for a year, and check again next year.

Hopefully I can use my AMA membership for road side assistance.

My experience with Progressive lead me to conclude that they don't take their road side assistance program all too seriously, and outsource it to contractors upon contractors until it resembles the Taxi system in its outdated horror.

Seriously, someone needs to invent Lyft for road side assistance, and outdated outsourcing-happy companies like Progressive need to buy it.
