Found that the lever will not cycle some federal wadcutter I had in 38. But cycled all other 38 and 357 without issue. Marlin's quality issues persist, but it's not abhorrent. Most modern mfgs made better guns in the past. However, short of the rifle not being able to feed the 38 wadcutter, I had no other issues in about 250 rounds. I found myself able to hit what I wanted to till about 100 yards, where standing, small targets and my skill level were the limiting factors.

My '65 870 Wingmaster is better made than one you can buy off the shelf today. But for most purposes, the new 870 would be good for all types of shooting. I feel the same way about my modern '94.

I'm trying to put together a collection of martial guns from totalitarian countries.

I have a pistol and rifle from Nazi Germany
I have a pistol and rifle from the Soviet Union
I have a pistol and rifle from Communist China
I have a pistol and rifle from Fascist Spain

I don't have anything Italian. What should I look at?

What other countries should I go for?

Ideally in calibers I can reasonably shoot but that's hard for Italy.

I am on a few forums where people have them. Did you have some questions about it? I could pass them along and see what they say. It's a pretty good forum with minimal BS so the answers should be pretty objective.

I was forgetting that I already have an M57 and M59/66. Wasn't really counting them on the list but I guess they qualify.

I'm seeing the Beretta 34 and 35 as my best bet if I want something I can shoot (380/32).

Debating on getting one vs building a .300 blackout. Haven't seen any ballistics tables on how much energy is lost and such for say, a 10" pistol build vs a standard 16" build.

I will ask and see if anyone has any info on the 458. 300BO tables should be easy to find, but knowing the guys on the forum they will say get a 458.

To me the 300BO would be my choice for subsonic shooting other than that I have other calibers that work for me.

What are you looking to use it for?

That Carcano touches both Italian and American history...

Best search or ask FALfiles; lots of knowledgeable people there but they don't like DSA much. I did a google search and there are reviews of the parts kits but not the complete rifles.

If you've never shot a FAL they are very fun. Heavy and soft. I don't know how you'd deal with California restrictions.
