April 16th headed to Metcalf.

I haven't ridden dirt in a long time and i don't fit into my dirt gear anymore ( i swear the gear shrunk, i didn't get fat) but i bought a pass to Metcalf for April 16th.

Haven't been there in like 5 years, has anything changed at all?

You have to buy a pass? I guess I haven't been there in a while either...

I can't speak to how it used to be, as Monday was my first time there, but maybe you can compare what it was like for me to what it once was. It's dead on a weekday, barely anyone at all. They have staggered parking, marked off via cones. Most people seemed to be there for 2 or 3 hours, with only about 20-30mins of that spent actually riding. Not sure if that's normal or not.

Not once did I come across another rider on any trail, which was nice, as I'm a total noob offroad, and I go really slow down hill, haha! Anyways, trails seemed decent. Pretty dry and dusty, no surprise there. Many washboards around corners and at the peaks. Looking at an older map, looks like the layout hasn't changed much, if at all.

It has ten miles of pretty good singletrack. Don’t miss Snake, Grewsome Gary and Fingers.

I should go on a weekday. I've been on a few weekends as as a relatively new dirt rider on a big old DRZ I tend to worry about being in the way. Work sucks anyway I should take a day off :-D

Still a great little place in my book

The passes are due to COVID-19 restrictions; go to their fb page or the SC county parks website and you will get the info on how to purchase--$6 per visit.

There's usually not anyone at the gate, so head towards the parking near the ranger's office--they will usually meet you outside and/or wave for you to stay in the car and they will check you in. Need to print out and sign their waiver if you don't have a current one (IIRC you can do this when you book online).

Just wish we get more rain (but not until after Stonybarf next week!!)...

Enjoy!

Do it. Value your mental health more than work.

The park is on a hill, so you can't really see most of it from the parking lot. From the lot all you can really see is the trail entrances, the exits, and a tiny bit of the short beginners track, like two, maybe three corners of it. Basically, all you would see is riders enter the trails, and be out of sight a few seconds later. So, no good for spectating.

there is an area where you can watch tirals riders practice if they show up, an area where you can see the beginner MX track and... little else. they have nice shaded picnic areas.

The MX track is MUCH different, they also removed the GP track to make the new MX track. I liked the old tracks better

I don't remember when they did it but the ATV track and the TT track are all one track now also.

Also the trials course has much more obstacles now. Seem everytime I go there is something new for the Light Bee to play on.

Other than that same old busted up whooped out trails

The MX track has two sets of bleachers where you can see half the track. Actually, there is a service road you could walk around the whole thing without issue.

The trials area is pretty cool too. Some regulars frequent it on Mondays and Saturdays.
