I started out using guided meditation off of YouTube. Work also gives me a free subscription to the headspace app. After practicing for a couple of years I can pretty much sit and meditate by myself, but it did take some time to get to that point. The key is to focus on your breathing.

With everything that is going on during the day these days, it feels like a treat to sit and think of nothing for a couple of minutes.

If the insomnia is happening on the regular something else is up that you need to deal with. Aint no amount of external substance gonna help work that out.

I don't have any trouble falling asleep but I wake up at 2 or 3am and then can't get back to sleep. I've been taking melatonin just before I go to sleep for a couple of months. I started at 2 mg and have worked up to 4mg. It hasn't done a thing for me.

If I wake up and can't immediately get back to sleep, it's usually because I've got some anxiety brain going. I read until I can get back to sleep. If that's not happening, I just get up and be productive or enjoyable.

Laying in bed and endlessly doomscrolling facebook is pretty much the worst pastime ever.

Anything that takes my mind off of what's keeping it awake. This includes:
- mindless TV
- a mediocre audio book
- reading a mediocre book

CBD oil is a good anti-anxiety thing for me. It really helps if I had one of those days.

It is a very valuable tool.

I did Transcendental Meditation back when it was a thing and was given a mantra to use. The plus of the mantra is that itís a sound with no previous association so the repetition might slow the mind wandering. Didnít work for me last time I was in an MRI though!
Iíve got paypal if you need a mantra.
