Any BARFers ride quads? No h8rs please

So I'm trading my old un-smoggable 86 chevy 4x4 for a 2007 yamaha Raptor 700 with upgrades. Not sure if I want to keep it or sell it. Anybody else here into quads?

Ya, they really shine in the dunes but I've had alot of fun riding them in the hills and did a few races on a motocross track.

Lots of guys up here in Redding run them. They have a sand race track somewhere around here (I have never been). The quads I see are normally stretched, and tuned within the brink of a four-wheeled bomb. They look like crazy fun, and have huge horse power for how small they are.

My Brother in Utah has a Banshee he takes to the dunes with his sand rail. I have gone a few times when I visit. I prefer the cage of the sand rail for safety, but for pure fun, the quad takes the cake.

I guess it all really depends on where you ride/type of quad. Sand is the most fun, but with a heavy 4x4, it isn't really fun at all. Trails can be a blast, but with a speedy 2x4, the trails are a pain, and you get stuck a lot.

What are you thinking of doing with it, are you close to anything fun?

theres around 60 miles of sand on the north Oregon coast, above Coos Bay. guess you could play with skimming along the the receding surf...
might even churn up some clam for dinner!
Are Metcalf trails open to ATV?

Haven't decided yet. They're pretty fun on some of the trails up at cow mountain but I don't really see myself driving 12 hours to the dunes much anymore. The chevy was supposed to finance my supermoto purchase but the smog thing makes it a hard sale so I figure it will be easier to sell this quad. I want to take it out for a day but im worried if I ride it I won't want to sell it. Lol

Pretty fun up there. I've been there on the ktm 525 and my old raptor 660. Was an easier trip when I was a single guy. The imperial sand dunes down by the ca/az boarder are WAY more fun though. (glamis)

Being a SM addict myself, I would submit the quad is going to be a toy you use every now and then, and the SM you won't want to get off of. If you take a look at the priorities of fun you see yourself doing, the answer will come. Are you looking to race SM, or hooligan the town?

I have never tried to sell a quad, so I have no idea how hard it would be. But in Ukiah this time of year (lots of people flush with cash, with land, and not super great with managing money) it might go real quick.

No more racing for me. Just want a SM to carve upmthe local
Backroads around here. Your right I should probably just sell it while it's still looking all sweet. One day up at cow and it will be dirty and scratched from the brush growing out in the trail.

old school 4x4 is okay for construction, or large quantity drug transfers.

right. same track all the time= insane acceleration fetish.
I think sand might be the best quad experience...salt air, charred hot dogs, a barefoot girl, dancing in the moonlighjt dew, etc. lotsa cold beer to wash down the adrenaline.

before I start getting too amped on it, I think I'll find someplace to rent one, and check it out.

whoa....I guess KTM doesn't need this market?

So, I got a pickup truck, and two days off work. How much fun can I have?

Don't count out KTM. I had their 525xc quad and it was a fuckin beast. Light weight and great suspension= massive 4th-5th gear AIR!!!! And yes the dune party is almost as much fun as the riding. I have some good pics on the shop computer if this thread stays around till Monday.

I'm getting a little jacked about it. The Santa Cruz twisties
are getting dangerous, a LOT of nitwits, I'm too old to start riding motocross, I yearn for the desert but hey, mountain bicycling is good, but I'm working so much painting, all I want to do at the end of the day is sit down, unless I get drunk enough to go looking for hookers, and sport touring is what I'll do when say f**k this shit.. I need some stupid fun time, like soon.. quads might be it!
yah maybe we pick it up when the swelling goes down...

The best parties I have ever been to involved motorsports. Nothing like running to the max all day, and great beer, food, and friends all night long.

Please post up your photos when you get a sec. I would love to see them dead thread or not.

Never ridden the raptor quads but I loved my previous polaris DS650x on the dunes. I think they are can-am's now. Quads are fun and have their place but I would take two wheels over the four.
