Pffft. I took 2 classes! . Did a intro class, then took another private lesson from the same guy to teach me how to float a 7ft board I bought off Beau.

You're nuts. I dive in 7mm suits lol. I wore my booties/hood along with my 4/3 in winter, and a 3/2 in summer and I felt nice.

Come surf here in .au, and you'll sport a 2mm in winter, then some comfy boardshorts and a santa hat when summer arrives.

Lol. I figured a class was better than trying to figure stuff out on my own. Well worth the $100 heh. Guy was a great instructor, too. It was a 2 day class and I was the only one who was there for day two. Was like a private lesson.

Well, I'm 125 lbs, soaking wet. lol. Literally. Maybe that's why I love the 7mm so much. I have like zero body fat and zero insulation, heh. It really sucks, to be honest.

Australia. OMG I wish!

2 days for $100 is a damn good price! Get used to paddling your ass off. Go out there even when its not breaking and just go out for a nice paddle and sunset. I used to do it all the time, and it made getting through the rough breaks a lot easier. Oh and with winter coming up, learn to turtle roll.

[QUOTE=wrexallen;6251621]Being a surf n00b and all, I'm ordering my 8' soft top, this week:

http://www.surfboardking.com/

Before you order check out this board.

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/spo/2086137839.html

This is NOT my board and I dont know the guy selling it. It does look like a pretty good deal and you'll save $50. Those soft boards suck in my opinion and you'll get sick of it quickly. Maybe somebody else (Volcomism)can take a look and give some thoughts. If the board has a few dings you can go to a shop in Pacifica and get them fixed for $50 to $100 depending on the amount of work needed. If you have any basic questions on how to asses a used board I may be able to help, so ask away if you want to. At the end of the day buy a board that makes you happy and get out there.
Please remember one thing, the first rider on a wave has the right of way, dont drop in. Unless the guy is on an SUP

I only used a soft-top in my lesson, but I thought they were fun to run around on when we would swap boards in the lineup. +1 on getting a used board though. Just have someone go with you to take a look at it.

The etiquette of surfing is: Don't do anything that could get you or someone else killed.

I have a scar on my foot from my own fin. Since then I always sand the leading edge down a little. Sharky water + bloody foot = short session

Stoked for ya bro!

Drink plenty of water before you paddle out.
Never paddle out alone (Do as I say, not as I do )
Don't paddle out further than you can swim back.
When you start to get tired, don't overexert yourself. You'll do more harm than good.
Look out for other surfers.

ha, it's funny that surfer's call it "turtle-rolling'. perfect term.
I love hanging with the turtles off North shore when they are feeding on seaweed and the waves get a little angry.
We all get rolled hard but it's fun to watch how relaxed the turtles are, just chillin'

8-10 ft! Sweet. Catch the late low-tide at Pleasure Point, and hit up those W-facing beach breaks during the day! AHHH I wish I was back home for days like this.

Thanks for that link, btw. It's where I got it.

It'll do until I get more proficient and then can be put back for when friends visit and they can use it. It's so cheap, it's worth it (I think). EVERYBODY I talked too, says it's better for the beginner, even NorCal talked me out of a hard board when I first started looking.

Yup, I know about "right of way" and not dropping in. I know there's tons more to learn, but at least I got those basics out of the class :-P
