I had a 2nd gen Z1000 that i took everywhere. Long trips, the race track, commuting, off roading, adventure rides.

One of the best memories was taking it through death Valleys Lippincott road with my buddy who had a triumph tiger and only got off my bike to help him pick his up (several times) the road was fairly gnarly and had water crossing and lots of rough rocky sections. Good times, then i snowed on the way back. Good times.

Hmm...

I had a '94 BMW 1100RS, that I pretty much lived on. It was even pretty good for dirt road service, camping, on top of commuting, around town doing it all stuff.

Now that I don't have to commute, I am considering making my R1200R my only bike.
The only thing it can't be is old, beat up and able to repel motorcycle thieves, but it does everything else, at least on pavement, nicely.

If it's gonna be a Strom, I'd do the 1k over the 650.

If speeds rarely exceeded 55MPH I could see the DR650.

If there weren't a lot of lane splitting, I could see the Africa Twin DCT. I have done a lot of lane splitting on it, but that doesn't make it the best tool for the task. Pretty awesome for the rest though.

If it were all paved roads, maybe a Multistrada.

I guess I don't have one. Yet.

2015+ gen BMW S1000RR. I've ridden it on every type of road imaginable and it was an excellent ride. 700+ mile day wasn't an issue either.

turns out with a bash plate and decent tires, the Multistrada makes a mighty fine adventure bike on dirt roads and fire-road two-track:
