But some of it is just: if you're human, then there are a whole load of things that come with it. Eyes, a heart, days and life.
It's the moments that illuminate it, though. The times you don't see when you're having them...

They make the rest of it matter.

There is an AC transit transbay bus that is a 5 minute walk from my new place so I haven't been riding to work that much. I rode in on Thursday.

I like the ride to work in the mornings when I take the bike but I can't stand lanesplitting home.

------------------

To keep this a little on topic, I think my rally route to Hawthorne is going to be 580 -> 205 -> 120 -> 108 -> 395 -> 167

167 -> 395 -> 89 -> 4 -> 99 -> 120 -> 205 -> 580 should be a fun ride home

I am suprised that Mr $2.75 shots hasn't chimed in. Where are you Kevin? Video poker and Oly is calling your name.

Or, do a day ride with me on that route in June, and save 108 and Tioga for September

Now, THAT is news! SaneMan leaving town?! It's a tragedy!

I'm down for a "probably". My work schedule is a bit nuts these days, but I should be able to make something come together.

I did this run (minus Hawthorne) last year just after Tioga Pass opened. Super scenic - too much so - I ended up riding out of Yosemite during sunset a couple times and was still in the park when it was pitch black, really really really cold and even snowing at one point.

Those roads into Bodie and to Mono Lake are very unpaved with loose gravel. On the way to Mono Lake I passed two sport bikers who left their bikes and were walking the mile and half down. I thought that's silly, why walk when you can ride. Then I crossed the unpaved part and was thinking to myself, "OH CRAP OH CRAP OH CRAP" the whole way down as the bike kept sliding on the gravel. Finally made it to the end and had to grab a book out of my bag to put underneath my kickstand so the bike didn't sink into the gravel. Saw the other bikers on the shore of the lake and they said good job on the ride down. I told them they were the smarter of us since they didn't have to endure it. The Bodie road wasn't as bad as it was mostly dirt (but still some gravel) however there were plenty of rain grooves that made for some very bumpy and nervewracking moments. Since it's dirt, there were a lot of dust clouds that got kicked up every time a car or SUV drove by.

The road into Devil's Postpile is great and super smooth (you can ride in if you're camping there or if you ride in before the rangers get there at 7am). But the parking areas are a combo of dirt, gravel and mulch.

-bookmarked for the future-
