Who goes to EAST BAY MOTORSPORTS, and Why?

Hi Barf,

Just wanted to share a recent experience at East Bay Motorsports, in Hayward.

I visited them a couple of years ago and felt they were outrageously pricely with nothing much to offer. And I stopped going there. However, I just bought a new-to-me 2016 Zx6r and was looking for an oil change place close by (I live in Hayward).

Santa Clara Cycles is usually my Go-To place ($35 oil change labor + oil + filter). But I didn't wanna ride that far in such traffic.

So, I went to East Bay Motorsports. Here's what they told me when I asked how much for an Oil Change.
1st person behind the counter responds, "It'll be a couple of hundred dollars...like $210-$225.
2nd person seeing my surprised look responds, "Well, the oil & filter is like $115 + labor about $125ish, so it'll be close to $225 ish, like he said (pointing to the 1st guy).

I shokingly asked, "over $200, for an oil change?" 1st guy says, "it's a bike man, now a car. That how much it is for bikes." ... as they both kinda smile at each other, as if this was the Norm.

Obviously, I left. I called the Dealership in Fremont. They said about $65 (incl oil & labor) for regular oil; and $90 for Full Synthetic (incl oil/filter & labor) and any oil of my choice in that price.

My question is WHO goes to East Bay Motorsports and Why?

I went there, once. They sold me a bike for a good price with no hassle.

You and me both.
Id never use East Bay Motorsports or is partner in Tracy.
Crooks, gougers and just plain assholes.
Love those smart ass parts guys who cant read a parts manual telling me a part doesn't exist.

Just laziness and arrogance from that counter.

Do the oil change yourself OP.. that 80.00 plus labor rate buys a lot of beer!

Do it yourself and put in Royal Purple synthetic oil.

If that is the case why post a complaint thead about a shop telling you how much it would be??

Overpriced... maybe so. Their choice.. for sure.
Your choice to go elsewhere of course.

Saving barfers...? Feeling bHurt???

If they did not screw you then I think the post is weak sauce.

The response above seems to be the weak sauce in this thread....

Overpriced - maybe? When did you pay $225+Tax for an Oil change? That's a robbery by most standards, especially if the Dealer offers $90 for the same service.
You may not be interested in the thread, hence your emotions bring no value either. Fact is, they charge ridiculous prices, and have smart mouths, as if we're idiots (it's a bike man, not a car. That's how much it is for bikes..haha) - as if I didn't know the ZX6r was a bike, and not a car. They were out to screw me, or ANYONE who came in for simple oil service. I'm just sharing the news & my experience. Is that Okay with you?

Tracy Motorsports was great for me and gave me an awesome deal on my 2018 Ninja 400...

I did not accept their first offer, and after some haggling I was able to get the deal I wanted out the door...

Obviously YMMV...

Newbiker..

Another Hayward option is Midnight Mechanic. Used him to change a couple tires. He also did some insurance repairs on a co-workers bike and it turned out very clean. Heís over on Industrial Wy.

Anyways...just a suggestion for another shop in your neck of the woods.

Giving the fact that full synthetic is about $15/qt x4 + filter (another $15) that leaves you at $75 in just parts. $125 labor rate (which sounds about right) from a dealer. It's not out of the ordinary to be honest, high balling the whole service.
