They are wearing body armor. The straps are hooked to the dog’s vest.

Body armor suffers from the same issue, whether it’s for dogs or humans. The more it protects you, the less mobility you have. One of a working dog’s purpose is to go places where a human cannot. If you stuffed them in a turtle shell of armor, they would lose that ability.

Also, even though I love dogs and am a working police K9 handler, if my dog dies but spares the life of me or one my coworkers then he did his job. No suicide missions, but “If not the dog first, then who?”

Agreed!

I wish there was a way for MORE lightweight (effective) body armor.
K-9's are lifesavers and a blessing for LEO's
FYI thank all of you LEO's for doing what you do and keeping us safe!
If any of you find Whammy at a Starbux the coffee is on me.
That is the very least i could do to show my appreciation for the job you do.

Rifle, helmet, heavy plate armor (I'm assuming), pistol, other gear, K-9 with bullet proof vest and other gear. Wanna know how tired you'd be just walking 100 yards on a flat surface? Forget about an incline or flight of stairs.
