You are completely correct upon rereading, just my illogical and emotional rant. Hate thieves, been a victim too many times.

I REALLY hope for the best and the son doesnt endure the wrath of the law.

Just over three years back I had to detain and make a citizens arrest of a thief on the sidewalk in front of my home. It turned violent and when the police arrived, I was on top throwing licks into the thief's face. He had a large rock from my planter and was trying to use it to hit me. Thankfully when they did arrive, they "suggested" over my shoulder to the thief that if he dropped the rock I might stop hitting him.

During this encounter, my overly sensitive tech exec neighbor was screaming at me that I should just let him go. We had some strong words after and I suggested that if perhaps the thief had instead been messing with his daughter I should have let him go..... ended his rant.

Perhaps I was lucky and had the good fortune to deal with law enforcement who saw it for what it was. I do know that even though this thief had warrants for a violent felony back east, he wasnt sent home or charged in SF even after being caught red handed. Bitter, disillusioned, frustrated? I dunno.

I hate the bystander who says not to keep punching.

I bet that person would be happy if her bike got stolen.

He'll be fine. This was an armed robbery and he has every right to defend himself and his property from a violent felony - which the guy was in fact committing.

Whether the suspect will be fine or not. Who cares?

Somebody should make a compilation of these types of immediate Karma videos and force inmates to watch them. Kind of like the Red Asphalt movies we kids had to watch during safety ed in high school.

Once the perp is on the ground and unresponsive, it's time to stop hitting before a murder occurs.

Yeah, kinda crosses from justified to assault, but I'm sure adrenaline was in full force. He may be thanking that bystander down the road.

Feel for the kid and his family. I am sure there are going to be some uncomfortable days ahead as this works out in the legal system. Hopefully the police and DA are reasonable and see it for what it is.

I can't imagine I'd react any different and completely lose it myself.
I hope so too: he hadn't stolen the bike yet, but he was assaulting the father & son. Seems pretty clear to me.
