I've changed tactics over the years, here's what I'm doing. make friends with peeps who own a truck and buy myself a truck with an auto. trans so that my S.O. can drive it if my friends are not available. 3 yrs. ago my battery dead as i was leaving. called AAA and they patched me to the nearest tow.$380 for a 9 mile trip!!! i didn't sign up for the premiere which includes the moto tow. that was eye opening...

I have the Premier, and while I have never had a bike towed, I have had my junky old van towed 3 times. I also have a card for my wife, as she likes to go the casino with her friends, and AAA will bring not only the car home, but the people too for up to 200 miles. Great peace of mind, as the trip to casino is often on back roads.

unlimited towing

No mileage or dollar amount limits – no out of pocket expense when towing your disabled vehicle to the nearest qualified repair facility

Coverage includes Member, spouse and dependent children ages 24 and under, and all other personal vehicles owned, rented, borrowed or leased.
I like AAA because they tow you 200 miles wherever you want to go (with premium) not to the "nearest repair facility" Normally if I break down I want my bike or car back to my house, not some garage two hours away.

The trick is finding a tow truck driver who's willing to actually tow your vehicle that far. That last time I needed a tow, at 11:30pm on a Friday night in the middle of nowhere, the tow truck driver that arrived wasn't in the mood to tow the bike 3+ hours back to the Bay Area despite it being within the 200-mile tow range. Thanks to AAA's "one tow per breakdown" rule my options were either to have the truck towed to a local shop or wait until the next morning then call again and hope I got a more accommodating driver...
