I'm from Washington, and when I rode up there, without exception other riders would acknowledge me with a wave. If we stopped together at a light, they'd often smile and usually say something like "how's it going" or "nice day for riding".

I bought a bike over the weekend (yipee!) and have been loving riding around on it, but none of the other motorcyclists I've seen have waved at me (and by wave, I mean the cool little hand wave in which you lift your fingers off the handlebar, but are still hanging on to it- not a big wave).

So . . . are things different in the Bay area? Do you acknowledge other riders when you're out?

I never wave at anyone from Washington.

Just kidding... Yup, I wave, and the majority of riders I come across wave back too. It makes me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside :twofinger

It depends. I've noticed that people commuting in/to the city don't wave as much as in the twisties on a weekend. I think it's just because riding in the city is so hairy, you don't really want to spend that extra second or two taking your hand off the bar... But generally, I see more people waving than not.

I was southbound on 85 the other day when I saw a helmeted head and a set of headlight approaching in the other direction. Without thinking I waved, then as he/she passed I realized it was a Can-Am Spyder. So I was temporarily confused, wondering if I had accidentally waved at a scooter or not?? :confused

:p

I've spent alot of time in Washington [Seattle] but I'm a native of here and for the most part it's pretty much the same. Alot more people here though and road rage is definitely more a problem so don't take your eyes off the cars.

what hophead said. you gotta be EXTREMELY aware around here or the SUV or Prius next to you will take the oppontunity to destroy you. Having said that, if I feel safe enough to not be on uber-alert mode and I see you, I'll wave.

Wave to just about every rider I see :ride

I wave when I can which is most of the time. I'll usually nod to another rider if they pull up next to me at a stop, unless they're being snooty and ignoring me.
