first I needed a running bike ... lots of drama ensued ... let's try to tackle the top end on the "A" bike ...

dremmel_hat.jpg

dremmel.jpg

recalcitrant aftermarket wrist-pin clip ...

dremmel_carnage.jpg

dremel carnage leads to free old piston ...

abyss.jpg

top end progress ... and the abyss-of-doom ... dropped a bolt down the cam-chain tunnel ... :facepalm

On to the "B" bike:

ignition.jpg

needed to remove the ignition cuz we lost the key ... had a spare ignition with a key in the garage ... more dremel work to get the riveted stock ignition removed by cutting slots in the rivets and using a big hammer and an old school impact wrench ...

Subscribed... if you see anyone I know tell them I said Hi!

klr-b.jpg

and the "B" bike rolls again ... new D606s and heavy duty tubes from MotoJava, new air cleaner (thanks Mark!) and spark plug ...

KLR off non-op status and insured in CA, Tourist Card, Mexican Insurance, Medivac life-flight insurance ... fooled with SPOT device, maybe that works: SFMCjohn's SPOT[ride over, link removed ... :( ]

found my stupid passport ...

so we'll see ... bike still not packed ... :rolleyes

super-long-range vague plan is to try to meet the BARF Baja 2019 crew in Bay of LA to demonstrate to my plated-dirt-bike friends how KLR guys do things ... :toothless

figure there's a 5% chance of actually showing up in BoLA ... if I get cold or wet that'll hurt my feelings and I'll turn around and go home ... :party

Cool riding a legend got the GI Joe bike!

How do the D606s do on the wet pavement? I used the rear on LAB2V and they were pretty good except on the hard packed stuff. Plus they howl on the freeway o_O'

Woot! Hope to see you in BOLA!

they've always been predictable on pavement for me, wet or dry ... I don't really push them at all ... from what I've read the D606s have a good reputation for pavement behavior ... sometimes run the MT-21s and don't notice any difference ...

you're a faster/better rider than me, so maybe you'd notice a difference ... my tires mostly hold my rims off the ground ... :laughing

the D606s do howl like heck on the freeway, though ... I can notice that ... :toothless

Hope to catch up with you in Baja John! Be it in Bola, San Ignacio, Mulege, or Scorpion Bay. I'll have a fresh Copenhagen for you if you do. :party
