did my annual Mendo/Trinity/BARF HoHo Rally Grand Tour last week, ten days on the KLR, and this year, with the encouragement and assistance of my friend Mr m0t0_ryder, added trout fishing on my list of things to do:

13” rainbow from Lake Lewiston … my late ‘70s Orvis convertible (fly/spinning) fiberglass pack rod, and an ancient Red Devil spoon.

I cleaned it and Mr m0t0_ryder cooked it up in foil on his grill, yum.

our campsite #11 at Ackerman Campground, Lewiston Lake. Mr m0t0_ryder was hanging out there for a few days before the BARF HoHo Rally in Weaverville, and had offered to bring along a sweet kayak for me to use, if I wanted. f-yeah! :laughing:gsxrgrl

anyway, huge thanks to him for getting me motivated to find my fishing gear and buy a fishing license. :party
we saw a bear six different times, and each caught a fish, and saw even more fish that got away.

a rough map … riding highlights were finding the Plummer Peak and Hayfork Bally watchtowers, hanging out with the HoHo Rally crew, finding the dirt route from Junction City to Hayfork, visiting the Weaverville Bally watchtower four times, and riding Bell Springs Road on the way home …

Anthony Peak sunrise …

huge tree blocking the Jefferson Ridge route up Hayfork Bally, forcing me to camp there that evening.

the road to Hyampom that Ms two wheel tramp showed my years ago … :ride

Mt Shasta in the distance and my campsite on the ridge to the east of Lake Lewiston …

moonset and the Weaver Bally watchtower …

sunset and wildfire smoke …

along with all the bear sightings, I got a good look at a bobcat, and maybe a thousand deer. looking forward to next year’s NorCal grand tour. :ride

Super cool John. Living the good life.

Two John's... two trout :thumbup

Great pics man...!

Hey John! :thumbup

It was great that you could come up early and spend some time on the water.
The fishing was OK, since we did land at least one each.
Seeing the bear (across the lake) on multiple days, both from shore and kayak was a bonus!

(can a bear swim faster than a kayak? Answer... YES! A bear can do anything faster than a human. Run, Climb & swim)

Friday 10-15 miles north of Weaverville on 3 a bear cub ran across the road. So cute! I was leading so left worrying about mama bear to The Rally Mistress and tag 3.

So much fun and adventure!

Good stuff guys.

When I grow up John, I want to be just like you. That looks like a great trip.

Great stuff John & John!
Fishing, motorcycling, kayaking. What a great combo.

Your pictures make me even more determined to get out on my DR. But not until I have my trail jack to lift the bike. My back reminded me I can't do that anymore.

Mad

can’t wait to see your KTM, are you going to be at StonyBARF?

I had fun transforming from a moto guy to a fisherman and back, again. :afm199
