Sweet, lets see it

Thanks guys- I'm excited to be a part of the Ducati crew. I now understand why Ducati owners are so passionate about their machines. The low-end torque, telepathic handling, breath-taking V-twin sound, & unexpectedly crisp/smooth shifting are just a small list of the many perks of owning this 1198.

I test rode an S1000RR right before purchasing this motorcycle & I unequivocally chose the Ducati just because it had more soul & talked to me more than the disconnected feel I got from the electronics-filled beemer.

that's effing awesome!

Can we get a pic of you off it and hawt bikini blond on it?

Or better yet, get a topless girl with a painted on teddy.

Can't believe I miss this thread! Congrats of your new addition - 1198 won't disappoint you. To me owning a Duc never really about reliability or on-going cost or even gas milage - I mean, when you in love with it, who cares about these things? Not that they are bad in my book anyway... IMO riding is always full of emotions - you buy a bike because you love it (and able to afford it :rofl), not because you pay less at the shop. So just go with your heart, and evidently you did it :thumbup

I gotta thank the BARFers who told me to go for it; I had doubts about purchasing another liter bike since I figured it'd be like having 2 of the same type of motorcycle. Boy was I wrong! The Ducati is an entirely different beast: for one thing, the sound of the bike gives me & anyone within a 10 mile radius chills; the V-twin grunts like a Maserati supercar on steroids (sounds absolutely nothing like my R1). Most notably, the low-end torque of the 1198 makes my R1 feel like a Vespa with a tank of bad gas.

Now this might just be because the bike is new, but the gear box is butter smooth & the clutch is completely intuitive. That's not to say the 1198 is some kind of a newbie friendly bike; the massive low end torque & wheelie-happy throttle response will either put you behind bars or in a hospital bed if you don't respect it / know what you're doing.

I don't really have to say much about the styling - it's a well known fact, both, inside & outside of the motorcycling community, that Ducati sets the standard in sex appeal for motorcycles. The only complaint I have is about the mirrors which seem to have more of a form over function purpose- maybe they were intentionally designed so you could only see yourself; as a Ducati owner you wouldn't really be interested in anything else. :rofl

Overall, to motorcycle-lovers, all I can say is: buy a Ducati; it will change your life. :ride

the mirrors which seem to have more of a form over function purpose-

The first-a rule of Italian driving; What's-a behind me is not important.

I want the 848 EVO

And don't even waste your time with the mirror extenders. Assuming you can even get the mirrors apart without stripping the ridiculously soft, lock tited in screws, the extenders do almost nothing.

Love my 848, but the mirrors are absolutely useless. Only complaint I have, but I knew it going in, so can't really whine about it now.

And while I don't know about the 'soul' argument, I do agree that these bikes are a different experience than the typical sportbike.

Awesome - glad you're lovin it!

One more bike to add to my dream list, though I'm very happy with my current bike, which has a ton of personality itself..

Are those great sounds happening with the stock exhaust? Don't look like Termi's in the pics..

Man, that 848 EVO pictured above is gorgeous!! Can't decide if I'd like the 848 or 1198 motor-wise... I've got 1043cc right now and, if I added a second bike, would probably want a smaller displacement so as to have two very different riding experiences..

I love the psycho torque and freight train feeling of my current bike but also miss being able to redline the first 4 gears before I'm excessively over the speed limit.. I like the feeling of riding a bike really hard, and you can't really do that on a literbike on surface streets, fr the most part..

I bet a 350cc Ducati sportbike would be a total blast...

Thanks - yes, the pipes are completely stock & sound amazing; I can talk over the idle of my R1 but with the Ducati, you wouldn't even be able to hear someone yelling at 1K RPM. I was never big on loud pipes etc... but man I absolutely love the ducati growl; I've been making that sound at work all day & people have been giving me a wtf look. :wtf :laughing

The 848 looks nice but torque wise, you have to experience the 1198; I have never felt anything like it before. :wow

Congrats! Beautiful bike:thumbup

Oh, and don't worry. Buyers remorse is normal and should wear off in a couple of months.:laughing
