Hello everybody,

I want to add a retro bike to the stable and I've narrowed it down to either the BMW R nineT or the Kawasaki Z900RS.

The challenge with the Z900RS is, that it's seemingly impossible to swing a leg over it for a test ride. No one in the entire state has listed one on riders-share or twistedroad, nothing on EagleRider and also no dealer has this model as a demo bike.

So if anyone has a Z900RS, I happily pay $100 plus a full tank of gas upon return if I can ride the bike for 1.5~2hrs. We can also go on a ride together (leisurely pace) and you ride my Africa Twin if you prefer.

Thank you!

Next time you're in Morro Bay....

It's the UJM perfected.

The quick sit on the bike tests tell me and my butt the Kawi seat is way more comfy than the R nine T's...

Between the two it's a matter of wanting the feel of the inline four or the twin experience. I recently got a 2018 Ducati Scrambler 1100 (relatively speaking R9T-ish) to complement the ZRS and enjoy the different feels. And I got the Z because I had missed having a four. If that's all any help...

Love the look, the suspension and the weight.

I'd be shocked if it wasn't a great bike that will hold its value well.

No test ride is part of the Retro Experience. Very few dealers back in the day were willing to let you out on a model you were interested in. :laughing

I have the Cafe version Z900RS and it's a great UJM. The engine makes a little over 100 HP, much smoother running than the original Z1, broad torque curve (for a 900cc four) with adequate suspension.

I think the difference you'll have to decide on is, do you want a mainstream twin, or a mainstrem four. If you already have a twin (Africa Twin, great bike), then why not try the Kawi. Just do it

FYI. The Z900RS has a distinct strong on-the-cams kick at about 6000 rpm but has a very smooth adequate amount of torque below that. If someone was a very conservative rider they could do perfectly fine rarely or never taking it over 6K forever and get around just fine. For reference I had an early Yamaha FZ1 and there was practically nothing below 7500 RPM. I did go one tooth larger on the countershaft on the Kawasaki for lower revs at speed. Geared pretty short stock. Easy change, no need for longer chain. Really enjoy the bike. Also really enjoy the Scrambler 1100 too for a different mood. Kaw refined, Ducati a bit rowdy.
