What do you feel / find is an average, fair hourly rate to be charged by a motorcycle mechanic to work on older bikes like 80's Honda Nighthawks, Kawasaki Ninja's, etc., & newer motorcycles, here in the SF bay area?

So far I've heard & read of freelance & shop mechanic charging on average from @ $20 - $60 per hour. Does your mechanic charge a different hourly rate depending on the type of work their doing on your / a motorcycle?
What would you consider to be a fair, hourly fee ( not counting cost for parts ) to charge & pay for work done at a shop, or when a freelance mechanic comes to you to work on your moto?

At $20 per hr I would wonder how they buy there tools or if they live in a box... I would say from what I have seen $65-90 bucks per hr depending on the quality of work and service you will get. And it is always + parts. At our shop we charge $75 per hr of course there are some exceptions where you do buddy deals to help when you can.

I've been getting 80-90 for work on my bike. It was good work, unfortunately the shop still closed down.

You have to wonder what the hell is wrong with someone charging $20 an hour. They've got to rent a place to work, keep the lights on, have tools, pay taxes and insurance, etc. They must be unskilled or not really running a legitmate shop (or both) to have to charge that little in a competitive market.
