Been all over the country including HI and AK and this is the strangest road name I've seen. And you?

Everytime I drive by that exit while on my way to Vegas, that sign sticks out. Def a funny name.

That is a w@ck road name for sure. Has my mind spinning to come up with anything close :laughing

I remember being so confused that I looked into how to pronounce it. For those interested;

Zzyzx:
  • Zzy - pronounced like "sigh" but with a z; zigh
  • zx - pronounced like "sicks" but with a x; zicks
  • Zzyzx = zigh-zicks
Until I found videos like the link above, I'd pronounced it ziz-icks :geek:

I occasionally ride one one called Road Creek Road. It's steep, dirt, and some years has big ruts, but others, like this year, is more of a normal road.

Another one in the hills is called Pine Creek Rd, but Garmin calls it Pinr Creek Rd. I guess that helps them determine if somebody is stealing their maps. Just check the misspellings.

My in laws in Ohio live on Woods O'Possum Run Road. Their street numbers are as long as the words!

In Colorado ... officially named "No Name"
Fun little anecdote.

The producer, or whatever at the record company wanted to get the name of ELOs debut album, so asked staffer to call them up and get the name.

The staffer tried to contact the band, but couldn't get through. So, they wrote down "No Answer", as it "They did not answer the phone".

The producer just took it as the album name, and ELOs first album is called "No Answer".

Brown Material Road near Buttonwillow.

If you get to gumption read about Curtiss Howe Springer. He build a spa resort at the end of Zzyzx even though he didnt own the land. He filed mineral rights to the land and named it ZZyzyx because the inspectors were always too understaffed to get to 100% of the claims and they would usually handle claims alphabetically. The guy was a legit evil genius.

Mr. Springer went to jail and died there, but the lodge went to the geology dept of a college. They discovered some microorganisms that only exist in the spring at Zzyzx so the lodge is always full of grad students and geology PHDs working. The road is 99%paved all the way to the lodge. It's a fun stop before you get to Baker, CA for a Baclava Milkshake and a Gyro at the Mad Greek.

I've been to Hell.
