A loud one
I want to get a guitar again to mess around..I can’t play for shit I did own 4 electric guitars and sold them even had a Les Paul studio:laughing

Anyways I want to try again and get another one I don’t want to be playing thrash metal or anything
Like that just something to mess around with

So what’s good and cheap

something used

Yep. Some deals to be found on Craigslist.

If I wanted something to just mess around with, I’d be looking for an acoustic.

But if you must have an electric, then I think the best quality to price ratio is on used, imported G&L guitars. They don’t hold their value for shit, but they are nice instruments.

Do you still have your amp and the rest of the kit you'll need to get started with an electric? If not you may want to get a package deal. There are tons of them, so check around the various online stores. I bought a Sawtooth brand package, because it was super cheap (I have cheap guitars hanging on my wall because, I like guitars and the Sawtooth was a Telecaster body) and the guitar was surprisingly nice, but the amp was above and beyond anything I've seen in a starter package before. I recently got a Maestro (by Gibson) SG package from Walmart for $65 and the guitar and amp are playable, but it sounds like a cheap ass guitar and amp. How much dosh you want to toss is what's going to dictate what quality you get.

Good pioint about used GC deals. The people at GC lack the knowledge to appraise instrument value, so you can sometimes find really good pricing on their used stuff, and they will ship to a nearby store. I wouldn’t ever buy anything else from them tho.

Best practice amp for the money right now is the Boss Katana. This is not up for debate :twofinger

There's some Epiphone's and Squires on Amazon for under $150. Probably playable, tho probably need setup as well.

For practice amps, go for a 15W Crate, Peavy, etc. I don't care for battery powered amps at all.

The Peavy amp I got in the guitar package was pure shit. The buzzing that was coming out of it ruined any sound by the instrument. I took it apart to see if there was some way to either ground it or find what was loose that allowed it to make that buzz, but couldn't find anything after looking at the board. craptastic it was.

What about musicians Fiend? are they owned by GC?

Yep. I'd avoid them as well, although I used to get strings there.

For internet purchases, I've had good experiences with Sweetwater and Elderly Instruments.

But for guitars and amps or other big ticket items, I think the first place to look is classified ads in CL or music forums.

You should be able to find a decent Yamaha in the $200 to $300 range at GC.

cool.. I have an Epi Traditional Pro, that I love. :thumbup

Toys R Us Flying V Special $100
