Heard that there was an ugly wreck over the weekend at THill with Z2 - nobody seems to be giving me much details, but I'm hearing that an instructor went down with a pillion and had to be airlifted?

Anybody have the full story?
 
I was thereSunday. I don't remember seeing any life flights that day. There was a red flag, but only lasted a few moments. ~5 min maybe?
Not sure about Saturday though since I wasn't there.
 
I don't think it was his fault at all, I heard it was the brakes going out while coming into 14 with the 2-up and that he did an amazing job of minimizing the fallout out from a mechanical failure.

Not sure about the passenger but he was in a sling at the Luau Saturday evening. It was funny with him, another racer, and me in our slings, I joked how ridiculous we looked. He should be right as rain in no time, like he said, unlike mine his will heal :Port

i was there on saturday, i know there was an oil spill, i know some people were pushing harder then they should have in B group. i think i counted up to 5 people on the side of the track in various parts of the track though.. then track was closed for about 30 mins or so. I however don’t know exact details of the crash.
 
Felt like someone went off almost every lap in B on Saturday. Hopefully everyone was alright and at least learned something.

This is also what I heard, brake failure going into 14. The passenger broke her arm and was going to be airlifted but I heard her telling the story that they refused to take her because she was swearing at them? Who knows.

Glad nobody was seriously injured, I can't imagine losing brakes at the end of any straight!

Saturday was crazy with how many crashes and people went off track, it felt like Sunday was much better.
 
Glad everyone was relatively ok. We were really worried that it took so long for the heli to take off.

I rode B group because I was on my Ninja 250. What an absolute shit-show. I've never seen so many people think it is okay to swerve in front of someone then brake check them. JFC, they even mentioned this very thing in the rider's meeting.

If you have to use your motor to pass a 250 you should buy a 250 and learn how to carry speed

I've been on a stock R3 and have been riding C group the last four times out on the track. Just picked up a track-ready R3 and rode that on Sunday. Any thoughts on riding the smaller bike up in B group? By midday on Sunday, I was only getting passed on straights and catching then passing folks back by the end of turn 2 typically.

Always looking for the advice or to connect with others on smaller bikes!

Definitely bump up and request instructor time in B group. You'll learn more from observing faster riders around you. Sitting in on the classroom lessons between sessions is great, too.

This weekend definitely an outlier - people were riding like asshats and the red flags showed that.

Go over to Catalyst Reaction and make sure that your R3's (both) are setup for you. A poorly setup bike can make a good bike feel awful. I also highly recommend you check out Dave Moss' YouTube vids to get an understanding of all the various bits and pieces of your bike that affect performance and stability. I had one little tweak done by Jim at catalyst this weekend and it reduced the effort to start/maintain a turn to almost nothing.... I stopped feeling fatigued by the halfway point of a session. All they did was adjust the sag (height) of my rear shock 2 clicks!!

Mitchyslick, SVJ and I will ride with you if we are running the small bikes. I know we will be riding them on 9/20 if you want to come play. SVJ is a freak'n demon on the brakes and at carving people up like the Thanksgiving turkey through the corners. Latch on to him for a few laps, you will be surprised how fast a 250 can go around the big track.

I think as long as you find yourself not making a lot of mistakes, passing folks cleanly, and are riding predictable for those around you, moving up is fine. You can always have an instructor evaluate you as well.

B group typically is the most versatile of all skill ranges, for good and for bad. Take that for what it's worth.

This is awesome, thanks for sharing! I was able to link up with Jay on Sunday who gave me a bunch of feedback about my riding, which was super helpful to get from someone also on a small bike.

This would be sweet. Are you in group B on that date? I'll grab tickets to come out then as soon as I know the right group to choose!
 
I am riding B on the 20th. Should be a quick group as that will be day before a race day.
