Long story short: I bought a 1988 Honda ZB 50 (50 state street legal as sold by Honda in 1988). The registration was mailed back to me with the note:
REFERRED TO CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL FOR INSPECTION. IF THEIS IS A REVIVED TOTAL LOSS VEHICLE, A CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL INSPECTION CERTIFICATE (CHP97C) IS REQUIRED BEFORE THE APPLICATION CAN BE COMPLETED.
Long Story Long:
I bought this bike from a shop in Santa Rosa. The shop in Santa Rosa bought it from out of state (Oregon) and went through the proper Lien process in order to get it into their name.
When I bought it, it came with the lien sale forms, a VIN verification completed by a Peace Officer, a bill of sale/transfer printed from DMV, and I also filled out an application for Title/Registration and brought that.
Everything went fine at DMV, they processed the paperwork and issued my plates and registration stickers and I was a happy camper.
Several weeks later, I received all of the paperwork back from DMV in the mail with the attached notice (see above)
Did I miss a step somehow? Is there another verification that's needed for the bike, I thought that the VIN verification by the Peace Officer was all that was necessary.
There are a few chippies on BARF that can let me know what the form is and what I might need to do, yea?
Thanks!
