If you've not already seen it there's a new forum for COVID-19 where information is being made available in a single place rather than scattered across the BARF. Check it out...

https://bayarearidersforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=187

As a part of this we would like to provide a forum for Q&A about COVID-19 and our new troublesome infiltrator SARS-CoV-2.

There've been a lot of questions and there've also been many answers in the various threads on BARF. However, what we would like to do is provide a place that is central for answering specific questions so that we can all go back and find an answer or point people to that answer. The current pandemic is fluid and answers might change as the situation evolves and new discoveries are made.

Here's the current protocol for the Q&A... Post a question in this thread. Keep it short and to one topic. We'll select questions to answer the best we can. These might or might not be done in a timely fashion depending on outside commitments. If a question to an answer has already been provided and the answer is still relevant and up to date, a link to the original thread/post will be provided.

We're looking forward to seeing how this works so fire away. This is a work in progress so things might change.

**Budman Edit - This thread is for information only and not your normal woohaw fun sink thread. Dr_SLO has been helping give us solid information on the virus for a while now. I trust him to give you honest and informed responses as his knowledge allows on the specific question. He is quite informed and this subject is in his beltway as a professional. We are very lucky to have him. Keep it on point and keep it respectful - MOD request**

We have a handful of N95 masks (gave the rest away). If it sits for several days between use will that effectively neutralize any virus contamination? Is there any other way to easily decontaminate it so it can be reused?

To be clear. Just wearing it for the once a week trip to the store so it's like 1 hour a week.

Has it been demonstrated that Covid-19 survivors' plasma can be given to Covid sufferers to improve their survivability?

I've been digging around pretty much non stop, but maybe you've come across a better article/study/data pool about length of time to be considered recovered?

I'm coming up on 3 weeks and still feel like I've been pulling doubles at a gloryhole, with a week of regular shift preceding that.

No hurry, I've seen scattered reports of long recoveries, but nothing from a legit source.

Whenever I have had the flu or a bad cold, I always felt better after taking a hot shower and eating spicy soup.

Would you agree that this a regimen to take for Covid-19 patients and anyone with flu-like symptoms, taking hot showers to help dislodge phlegm from lungs and spicy soup to open sinus cavities?

Medical question: Is it likely cough syrup might relieve the dry cough when someone catches this thing?

Is it true that a CPAP machine can substitute for a ventilator in a pinch?

There are a number of questions here.

Has there been any correlation between viral load at infection and symptom manifestation? Ie, get a little virus, get a little sick vs get a lot of virus, get more sick?

Health care workers think so. Worldwide, they appear to get sicker than most. We believe it IS airborne, and inhaling it results in more virus straight to the lungs, as opposed to touching the face with contaminated hands.

A study with influenza virus in mice showed a larger innoculum was more lethal.

Another mouse study found that inoculating the lungs with a different coronavirus was more deadly than inoculating the nose

<apologies for the morbid question>

how does the assignment of cause of death work, in particular when covid-19 and co- or pre-existing conditions come into play?

clarification: are there multiple causes of death assigned?

thanks

Snaggy can answer that question best but a partial answer can be found within the first 30 minutes of the podcast found here https://bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=10554918&postcount=11. Daniel Griffin is an Associate Research Scientist and Instructor in Clinical Medicine (tropical diseases expert) providing support at a NYC hospital. Daniel talks about assignment of ventilators.
