So I had a love tap from a cage while spitting lanes at about 20MPH. It was a fairly low-impact tip over, but my airbag (Misano Jacket) went off and I took it to the D-Store to be repacked. Apparently there's only ONE person in the country that's certified by Dainese to do this, and the turn-around time is approximately 3 months.

Anyone else had to go through this??

Yes. I have popped the bag twice in my vest. Bit of a circle jerk at the D-store both times...they say one thing on the phone, but when you show up, story changes. Both 0mph simple tip overs.

The first time 2 years ago, there was one employee at the D-store who could replace bag. But they were out of bags. They stole a bag from another product to deal with my replacement. That took a week. The second time this year, there was an area manager of some sort, who is the only one who could do repair, and he just happened to be in the store that week. Repaired in just a couple of days.

I am not surprised at the 3 month leadtime now. Major employee turnover at the SF store may be partly responsible. Dainese just cant seem to support the product. It works great, very happy with the performance, but if I need a new bag again, and lead-time is beyond a couple of weeks....Alpinestar for me...

I’d put Dainese at the top of the gear list for most of their products in terms of quality and cache.
Sad to see they don’t have the best follow up after the sale.

It's unbelievable how bad a company of that size could be so poor when it comes to support. Extremely disappointing, especially since their products fit me so well compared most everything else out there.

Thats one of the reasons why I went with the Hitair MVLP vest. It's uglier than a dog walking backwards but you can repack it and replace the CO2 cartridge yourself in just a couple of minutes.

I’m a big believer in airbag vests. They ought to be required equipment like a helmet. Just wish the prices would come down so everyone could afford one.

I'll never ride without one ever again. Which makes this situation so frustrating! Maybe they should provide loaner vests while the owners' is being repaired.

I was looking at an airbag jacket from Dianese last year, but the fact that two jackets had issues preventing them from being activated and the warnings that the bag could activate due to rear wheel slides or the bike getting airborne eventually turned me to a regular jacket as I do sometimes enjoy the rear wheel sliding and certainly consider it fun times if the bike happens to get off the ground in the bumpy stuff.

I’m confused. 2 0-MPH tip overs and it works great? The vest I have from them doesn’t arm until gps detects 25+mph. If it popped twice outside triggering parameters I would be bummed. Which version do you have? Mine is from 2018. Easy to use. Hot AF in temps over 75.

I use an Alpinestars Tech 5 under a mesh jacket and was dying in the heat yesterday coming home in Pleasanton.
But that feeling of safety can’t be beat.
Yes I know a vest can only do so much but I wouldn’t ride without it.

I have a Klim air bag vest. It has a little ventilation along the zipper, but yes it increases temp.
A cooling vest underneath it is a must at 90 and above. Watching MotoGP dudes walk away from some brutal crashes because of an airbag convinced me it was worthy tech for an old dude.

OP - Good luck getting it done soon.

I bought a Alpinestar Tech 3 Airbag vest December 2023. It quits working six months later. I got the run around from the world's worst customer support and just gave up on the vest and Alpinestar products altogether. I now ride with a tether airbag vest I bought on Ebay. It has no subscription fee, no electronics and its weight, no summer time heat issue, no battery charging, no worry that the battery would die on me on long rides, and no need for customer support.

The vest arms as soon as it detects vibrations from the motorcycle upon starting. You know it's armed from the vibrations from the "haptic" device located against your chest. Very easy to sense. Stays armed for about 5-10 seconds once you turn off engine. Purchased in 2022.

I don't know why I thought it armed after the BIKE reached a certain speed, probably misreading this: "The Dainese D-air® Road system, integrated into vests with airbags, activates as soon as a threshold of 10 km/h is exceeded or if – even when stationary – it senses vibrations from the motorcycle. That’s because D-air® Road is designed to protect even if you are rear-ended while the motorcycle is stationary." https://demonerosso.dainese.com/dainese-motorcycle-airbag-how-it-works-guide

Yes, the haptics are helpful. What's funny about the vest is the flashing visible on the display through my mesh jacket when walking around. Many comments, including "Is that a bomb you're wearing?"

Someone suggested wearing an evap vest underneath to mitigate heat, but that felt constricting and didn't help over 75F. Under 70F it's the perfect warm vest for wearing under mesh. For me, when there's wet pavement, the vest goes on.

the Evap vest makes a huge difference for me. The 2" of ventilation on each side of the zipper is enough to keep it working and making a difference. Probably stretches out the cooling duration as well.

Can you be happy in 111 degrees wearing a shit ton of gear including the air bag...? yup.

Since my Klim does the light up thing I often get questions on WTF is that thing??
