Is the video activated when the lights go on? Does the audio also get saved?

I would like to dispute a ticket. But I need the police car's video which will clearly show that I am in the right. If I take it to court, how will I be able to request this?

No. My department stopped fixing our car cameras years ago. I'd imagine each department is different but ours turned on at Code 3 or by manual push of button.

Some departments, or should I say many, don't have vehicle cameras.

If the officer had one in your situation you should contact the department, and some say the DA's Office too, and submit formal discovery requests for the footage.

Wow, I'd think CHP especially would have video, what with the crazy shit that can go down on freeways? Even after that one cop got shot on 680 (RIP).

On a lighter note, where will we get our hilarious tv-worthy cop video shows if all the cameras are gone? D:

Our Chief asked us what we thought. I'd put one in my car in a heartbeat - great evidence. But we can't afford $5000 cameras to attach to our $5000 laptops.

Chp def not. Our low bid systems are already falling apart

I would say most in our office work, but almost everyone has been taken out at one point or another for repairs. There are usually a few cars out at all times with a broken camera system. The systems (MVARS)(mobile video audio recording system) is sensitive to heat and vibrations like any electronics, and when exposed to these long enough they break.

What may I asked were you accused/cited for?

I know they are purged after a certain time, but that would be based on policy that only a evidence officer would care about.

Seat belt. It was not the problem though. he pulled me over because he thought I was drunk or on drugs (I was pulling out of drive through at 10pm). I passed his stupid sobriety test no problem.
