How to patch tear in vinyl seat cover?

I am looking at buying a used KLR650 with a small tear in the vinyl on the seat. Eventually I will want to replace it, but for the near term, I want to patch it so that I can decide if I am happy with the stock seat or not.

Is there a recommended way to repair torn seat covers? Can I remove it and patch it (I think I already have the right kind of glue in the garage).

If I like this seat - can I just replace the cover?

Any other seat related advice for a newbie?

Thanks,

Joel

see if Second Look makes a cover for it, I just ordered one for my GS500 as it is all torn up, I have plenty of duct tape on mine while I am waiting for the Second Look seat cover,:teeth

go by scuderia on duboce, they can give you the # of a guy that does real good seat repair/ redone all together.

if its just a small tear go to kragen and get their leather repair kit.
It comes with a few different colors so that you can mix and match to get the color you need. Comes with glue and a small iron to melt the color.

Works pretty well if you do it right.

Use the glue sparingly and dont overheat it.

If you've got a staple gun it'll probably be cheaper just to buy appropriate sized sheet of vinyl and recover the seat yourself. It's easier than you think it is. When I covered the seat on my old Katana last year it cost me a cool $3.00 (vinyl @ $1.50 a yard) Never a bad idea to buy a little extra as I did, just in case.
