I feel like Rawhyde is in the middle of a conflagration (again) poor bastards. Does anyone know what up?

I don't know about Rawhyde, but I was watching the fire a little bit when it broke out the other day. It's right next to Castaic Lake, so the water drop had very fast turn arounds.

It was satisfying to see this wall of flame get literally snuffed out by a well placed water drop.

From afar, you see these aircraft drop their loads and spray the ground, but it's never obvious that it "does any good". But this one, yup, snuffed out this raging inferno like you'd pinch a match.

Sad to see. Castaic Lake is one of our favourite overnight camping spots when we take the van down to SoCal

Alert readers (thanks Dave Berry) will recall that I wrote up my experience at Rawhyde a while back and there was a lot of evidence of a previous burn that had basically surrounded them but had not inflicted any damage on the property. I'm sure they were sweating bullets b/c the fire lines were very close. But this time, and from the maps, the whole area looks scorched.
