This is one sick and twisted movie!!!!! It was waaaaaay over the top, but in a VERY good way. I absolutley LOVED this flick. It was not a Comedy, like some of the previous versions. This one was just plain, ole, gore and horror.

There were some parts that made me LOL, because the shit was just 'non-stop'. :laughing

If you are not in the mood for Shakespeare- PLEASE do yourself a favor and go see this movie. It is just plain old fun. Kinda like Django was 'fun'- this may not be as Oscar-worthy, but it is still hella fun.

Also, I rode my ZRX1200 to the movie theatre, and that alone makes any outing a fun time!!!

I give it "Two Thumbs Up"!!!

RIP Mr. Ebert!!!! You were always a class act. He never tried to make a name for himself at the expense of others, which is uncommon for critics.

ps- Stay for the credits.

Going tomorrow can't wait. Does Campbell make a cameo:teeth

I'm not gonna spill the beans one way or the other!!!!

You will love the movie!! I literally had to turn my head a couple of times, because of the gore. It is a very fun (twisted) movie.

I'm hoping that I can watch the older versions on TV this weekend. I'm sure they will be playing to promote the new movie.

I LOVE Bruce Campbell. He just seems like the type of person who can laugh at himself. I love that quality in people. :thumbup

The original scared the crap out of me in the '80s, it was creepy as hell.

The first one was funny because it wasn't supposed to be funny...at least it was to me anyway.

Did anyone walk out or puke? Or both? :laughing

I'm sorry, I went to the 10pm preview showing thursday, I wouldn't have gone to see a remake of Evil Dead except it was getting such rave reviews. I am a huge fan of the originals (both the 1978 short, the 1981 original, and by far the best of all 1987s Evil Dead 2 which itself was essentially just another remake only done much better), and wanted to see the Raimi produced remake since the Raimi directed Army of Darkness/Wizard of Oz was so great.

Damn I was disappointed. to me, the new remake is just another one of these shitty, grayed-out colorless, "Platinum Dunes" style hollywood abu grahib torture movies with terrible shitty young actors and the kind of assholishly stupid plot that one cannot help but be insulted insofar as the movie is not trying to be camp (like Evil Deads were).

There was nothing anything like the caliber of practical special effects and cinematography of Evil Dead 2 (though I'm sure the remake had ten times the budget). they tried hard to be Saw uncomfortable with gore but when the gore is shit CGI and MPAA black blood, it's still no good to me

do yourself a favor, save your money and find an old VHS of Evil Dead 2. or at least a DVD rental of last year's far superior (but still basically shitty) Cabin In The Woods

SPOILERS

1. These idiots lived in the cabin enough in the past that they had all their photos on the walls etc.? but they weren't immediately concerned that someone murdered every cat in the forest and set it on fire etc in the basement? uh, wouldn't this change your plans when you showed up? call the cops maybe? at any rate you wouldn't stick to the old cold turkey shit. this was so fuckin dumb

2. I dont undestand who the extra girl was who turned up in the swamp and then came out of the ground at the end. who in the fuck was that supposed to be? the girl they burned at the beginning? I thought they burned her. the fuck? so stupid

I dont even want to think about this anymore.

PS. as I recall Rogert Ebert back in 1987 with Siskel gave Evil Dead 2 a rave review

..................So, let me get this straight- you agree with me 100% that the movie was Oscar material? :laughing:laughing:laughing

Saw it. Dug it. It didn't have the camp of the first one, but I don't think it would have succeeded if it had gone in that direction. I felt there were some choice laugh lines anyway though. Each time the duct tape came out, for instance.

It's not an instant classic or anything, but a no-brainer to recommend to any horror fan. :thumbup

Its a definite must see. The guy next to me was literally jumping out of his seat his girlfriend whispers "You're such a bitch" and everyone around us starts ROLLIN!

:thumbup:thumbup:thumbup

Did you just describe a horror movie? I think you pretty much said this was a horror movie in your review but expected it to be something else.

The camp is what made the originals awesome. Without it, it's just another slasher/gore redo ala Texas Chainsaw Massacre...which was an abomination BTW. Except for R. Lee Ermey. :teeth

BTW- IFC has been playing evil dead 2 the last couple nights. Gotta love the,"Gimme some sugar baby!"
