I'm now an official ADV guy, ready to hit Starbucks up and down the coast. :toothless My winter project was repairing and fixing up a very lightly damaged, neglected, and non running 2007 BMW r1200gs. A friend passed on the bike to me at a very affordable price, so I couldn't say no as it fit into my limited budget. A couple of fellow Barfers helped with technical assistance in getting it running, and tuning it up as I have never owned a BMW before. Once running, I spent a good deal of time repairing and replacing some minor damage...... and a lot of elbo grease derusting nuts and bolts. Then freshening up and servicing everything else. Still haven't mounted the acquired auxiliary lights on the upper crashbars, or aquried a proper GPS mount yet. Will get to that.

But tickled pink with the outcome..... looking forward to hitting Starbucks and a Barf Rally or two on it soon. Even pulled together a complete used Klim gear set and proper modular ADV helmet to look the part. :frankie :wave

Wilbers suspension front and rear, along with grey Jesse Bags hard panniers (not pictured) are the major farkles it already came with. As I am not a coffee nut, some one will have to let me know what the proper Starbucks order is and share the special handshake to join the crew. I've memorized all the Motoz adventure tire options and others, so ready to debate pertinent ADV facts and farkles. :kicknuts IMG_1877.jpgIMG_1883.jpg

Thanks guys!. I'm super stoked to learn some new skills and prepared to be humbled on a 500+ pound motorcycle. I have noooooo expectations of recreating some of the hero dirt ADV big bike stuff I see on youtube..... but hoping I'll have some fun on gravel roads and forest service two tracks. I'll stick to my dirtbikes when attempting stupid human tricks, and usually, humiliating myself in the process. :laughing

Looks like it's ready to go. ADV cheat code achieved..

Now we have to dress you in brand new Klim gear.

Nice!
Should the dash be filled with a GoPro camera, 2 gps’s, radar detector, etc for proper adv or BMW cred?
There are some folks that seem to need 2 GPS, and 2 phones to navigate in Baja. Not naming names.... :ROFLMAO: I prefer the old pick a heading, and some geographical feature to dead reckon by. But I am going to get a mount for the Garmin Montana. I have a fancy Go-Pro with the all the moto accessories, my sister bought for me a couple Christmas seasons ago... still on my shelf in the box as I am such a luddite. :facepalm
the ‘07 GS looks super-cool with that DOT knobbie on the front … the gang at Starbucks will be impressed. :thumbup

hopefully Mr @Cincinnatus, Mr @Cabrito, Mr @bananachunks and myself will see Herman the German at the venerable n00bs Rally in Death Valley in March, 2025, w00t! :ride
I aim to impress, or is it dress for success? I am shooting for Death Valley Noob Rally next spring. Been on my bucket list forever, and may need a reminder.
Very Cool ! Did you get your 'stich yet ? :afm199

Side note, "Herman the German" is actually a really good read !
Klim..... please. :loco Looks like I've got a book to by for some reading on the first overnight camping trip.
Now we have to dress you in brand new Klim gear.
Used Klim Badlands Pro jacket, and Latitude pants. Two hundred beaners.... fit my budget. :banana Scorpion AT960 modular ADV helmet, in the RED WHITE and BLUE Hicks colorway of course. :flag Even got Senna 50R. Herman and I aren't f'ing around.
Isn't BMW more of a Rukka crowd?

Congrats!
Pics of the bike?
Pics should be in first post.

Oh nice, somehow I missed them or something on the first go-around.

I promise not to count your bikes out loud if you don't count mine.... :ROFLMAO:

N+1 right? :ROFLMAO:
Hey... I'm down to Herman the German and my two dirt bikes! Well, if you don't count the 78 Husqvarna CR 390 project I have upstairs in storage. Will address that this coming winter. :rofl Thinking it might come out of my shop as a plated two stroke Sheet Iron contender.

I cleaned out the garage of bikes. Between registrations and insurances becoming so expensive, it just didn't seem worth it. That and maintaining so many bikes, even for a guy like me...

I was never like that guy we all know, who filled up a two car garage, side yard, and a box van in his driveway with bikes and parts. That guy might have a problem....... :twofinger
