Hey Vintage Cafe,

Here's an excuse to ride your vintage bike ... :party

We've got a tour booked at the Canepa Motorsports Museum this Saturday, 4/12 ... meet at the SFMC at 8am (18th Street and Folsom), and ride down to Scotts Valley (in between San Jose and Santa Cruz) ...

http://www.canepa.com/collection/tour.html

From the website:

"The Canepa Motorsports Museum is dedicated to the spirit of automotive competition, and the celebration of engineering excellence. On display are a broad spectrum of racecars and motorcycles from the golden age of motorsport to modern times."

Going to try to ride my '85 H-D FXSB ... :ride

Pretty sure the tour is free ... should be over around noon, and we'll head back to the city via Bolder Creek and maybe stop for lunch at a member's home ...

Should be fun ... :thumbup

see you around the corner,

aw, I'm jelly

that place is awesome! Canepa's quite the motorhead

his folks pioneered BigRig streamlining for IndyCar & other motorsports teams

I was here for a tour two weeks ago. "Jaw-dropping" doesn't even come close to describing this collection. There are *9* Porsche 959s in the building, racecars ranging from 1500hp '70s Le Mans cars to modern LMP2 cars, other exotics like XJ220, EB110, and Countach... really unbelievable. My favorite was the Porsche 935 that, when Canepa purchased it, came with so many spare parts that they filled the entire trailer... so he had to drive the car over Highway 17 from SJ back to Scotts Valley, at night. I'm betting that's still the unofficial lap record...

There is also going to be an open house for cars-and-coffee every second Saturday morning of the month through the summer, 8-10AM. I'm planning on making a few of those...

Hey sckego,

Yes, this Saturday will be the first open house ... From their website:

"Looking for an excuse to hit the road? Starting April 12th, Canepa will open its doors (and parking lot) for a coffee-fueled celebration of all things automotive. Roll out your pride and joy and join your fellow lead foots for an amazing morning of classics, exotics, race cars, hot rods, and motorcycles. Canepa Cars & Coffee will take place from 8am-12pm on the second Saturday of the month through October. The perfect event for clubs, aficionados, and car crazies of all ages!"

May be some fun things to look at in the parking lot ... :ride

PS: We get the impression that the SFMC may be a bit enigmatic if you don't know us, so just a quick word to folks who may be
put off by "motorcycle clubs" ...

The San Francisco Motorcycle Club is an artifact from before the Internet ... an analogue BARF ... it is one of the oldest motorcycle clubs in the world, and we are celebrating our 110th Anniversary this year ...

In 1904 three of our founding members owned three different motorcycle
dealerships (Indian, Thor and Henderson), which began a tradition of multi-brand ownership that we've always maintained. We are a proud mom-n-pop
AMA sweater club ... we have one family who have been members
for four generations and many two-generation families.

Our attitude is if you live in San Francisco and ride a motorcycle, this is your club! :thumbup

Looks like it's an hour and a half by freeway to Canepa from the SFMC, so Kalle suggested trying to leave from the club by 8am (instead of 8:30am) so we can ride 280 down to 84 and then take 9 to Gram Hill to Mt Hermon to Scott's Valley ... try to be at Canepa at 10am ...

So that's Saturday, 4/12, 7:30 am at the club (18th Street & Folsom), KSU at 8am ...

see you on the road ... :ride

So, that's my Vintage Cafe ride report on the Canepa Automotive Museum ...

They are having this open house on the second Saturday of the month, through October ...

It is a fun ride from Lower Haight to Scotts Valley.

Seems to me a vibrant BARF sub-forum needs a monthly ride ... this Canepa open house would be kind of cool, because it is a destination we Vintage Cafe guys could ride to on our vintage bikes from all over the Bay Area ...
