Just passing this on. First time I have received a letter on the CA birthday rule. I have used for many years to change my Plan F supplier and save a little money. Please note this does not apply to advantage plans. Note plan F is also no longer available, but if you have one you may find a lower cost plan.

We are F'ers. ;)

This isn't new, birthday or end-of-year. We do consult a broker to find the best coverage. Just now starting to matter. Geezer ailments on the charts.

Side note: ***Deleted as could not write in non-political verbiage.***

tl;dr would have been, Dental!!!

First thank you for not turning this politcal.

Yes as I said I have been doing the birthday rule for years. Unless someone does as you did and consults a broker they would not know about it. This year was the first year I was sent a letter on the birthday rule.
Looks like one may not trade up and therefore starting with the best right out of the gate is advisable? Also playing into the system’s interest.
Yes there are cost and they go up every year you get older. I have a plan F that pays anything above what Medicare paid. And of course they changed the rule and you now can not get a plan F. I am glad they grandfathered us who had it.

Disclaimer, At 76 in September I am a dinosaur in more ways than one. I retired with a conventural pension, a 401K, and another tax sheltered plan. The big one is after 30 years I retired with Medical Retirement at 60. At 65 went on Medicare and my Medical Retirement converted to a prepaid tax free health saving account. This pays for my and my wife's plan F and some other medical expenses. Don't rant to hard on me. I think everyone should have these benefits.
