I can't answer your question but shipping a bike is a pain and somewhat expensive. I really can't see a good reason for not buying a bike locally unless it's a very special bike, Like only one of ten imported kind of deal. Or something you just can't live without, otherwise it's too much hassle.

It cost me about $600 to ship a bike from the North Bay to Houston. The cheapest is http://www.forwardair.com/ but you have to crate it yourself and get it to the shipping location.
