Those of us that do ride scooters in addition to our other machines tend to keep it on the downlow. Those that haven't tried it with an open mind tend to dismiss scooters and not give them the credit they deserve.
we have guys in our club who rode their two-stroke Vespas from San Francisco to Pontedera, ITALY, via England--4500 miles, I guess--for Piaggio's 50th Anniversary party. They've ridden them down to Cabo, too ...
if I ever ride around the world, I'd seriously consider a modern Vespa GTS 300 or Yamaha XMAX ...
I'd like to get a scooter just for the hell of it. As a teenager in Turkey and Greece, we used to unleash mayhem while riding Honda Elites and some other little mopeds. Would be cool to see more discussion.
I will mock scooters endlessly and without mercy....
I've also owned one after I owned several motos. Super-stupid and super-fun. A different fun than "real" bikes. Traffic is a lot kinder to a little gal bumpin' along on a scoot between vehicles. People actually moved over. Like, willingly. Other girls told me how cute it was. It could hold a lot of groceries. Some of the functional stuff about it drove me crazy... it was gutless, it shifted on its own, braking sucked. What?? Whyyyyyy??
A neighbor in my new park had this Titan parked @ his place, exposed.
Rides it occasionally, a new scooter has taken up residence, though.
I found his bike @ the Go Az shop, where it was traded in.
From no fenders to full bodywork, that should fix the mud in his teeth.
Small displacement rides can be a hoot. I alternate between 693cc and 155cc regularly. What they say is true, "It is more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow."
My first scooter experience was renting one somewhere in the Caribbean when I was way too young. That may have triggered my later passion for motorcycles!
In college, I bought a beater scooter for $50 at a garage sale in Southern California and had it for ~10 years until it was stolen out of my carport never to be seen again. They left the Blackbird unscathed...
Anyway, apparently this was an old thread, but I just saw it and it took me back. Fun memories! Welcome (a couple years ago )!
