Phil here. New to riding.
I came out to California to work three years ago and fell in love with the area, I am returning in January and was considering shipping my Kawasaki Versys 650 out here. I would be interested to know if Moffett field is a great place to ride and hone my skills.
I also would jump at the opportunity to do some group activities while I’m there.

It is hard to find a better place to ride than CA. Bring the bike!!! :ride

I am not sure what up with Moffett field.

Hope you enjoy your time here and the move is kind to you.

Welcome! There is a rally coming up in a week…
Edit… oh, January.
OTOH, Mt Hamilton rd! Hit me up.

Santa Cruz mountains!

I moved here in 1992. Fell in love with the area and have made it a home since.

There is no better place to be a motorcyclist than in the Bay Area. Definitely bring the bike!!

When you say Moffett are you meaning the actual old base? like drag runs on the airstrip or something?

....because there are much better places to ride than that.

Moffet is heavily restricted, requires ID to enter, etc,... might be ok for very slow speed riding, but they are VERY strict about speeding.
You might try the Mission College parking lot, isn't bad for practicing, and sometimes there'll be riders there practicing their maneuvers...

Welcome, if you mean is the area around Moffett Field, yes the South Bay is awesome riding. Are you with NASA Ames? Welcome to California, totally worth the price.

Thanks, Im just working for a while at Moffett Field, since Im a newbee I prefer a controlled area to ride and practice, looking forward!

If you are working there I would think you would have access to some degree.
The runways are still active once in while so that might not be accessible even to an insider.

Zipping down the runway trying to keep up with a jet, I would leave to Tom. I’m still working on gear shift, stop, start, left and right turns
Haha

Thanks

hi, and welcome!
maybe consider refreshing / enhancing your skill set with formal training, likely with a "California Motorcycle Safety Program" (CMSP) class provider, either beginer riders school or intermediate class if you think you are ready.
there is a list of schools as a stickie in the Riders Skills sub forum ( biased opinion: Pacific Motorcycle Training is the best)

Yes that is my intent thank you.
Real excited to get out

Welcome Phil! I’m practically next door at Lockheed. I’ve been around for while, but took a long break and back into riding again. There’s roads on the other side of Mathilda out by the city dump that are quiet in the weekends. I’m rusty as hell, but if you ever want a buddy to practice with hit me up.
