I have a 1979 Honda CBX, which has been referred to the CHP for inspection. It is not a total loss vehicle, just an old title that doesn't have an engine number on it.

Is it only possible to do this type of inspection by scheduling an appointment with the salvage office or can any officer sign off a Form CHP97C (which I assume is what is needed to confirm the engine number)?

Thanks!

I did same at the Union City CHP office decades ago. It was quick & easy & got out of there in ~20 minutes. They were very nice to me...

On the other hand never do anything you don't have to at the DMV. It's their job to deny anything & bump up the charges. :afm199

Yes. Its iseasy and 99% of the time it takes 5 minutes, once they get to your bike. I have a special construction inspection and it was done in about 10 mins with VIN plate installed.

Awesome, thank you guys. So I'm assuming I should just toss it in the back of the truck and take it to the CHP office?

pretty sure you have to book an appointment - for several weeks out

Must have Appointment but once there piece of cake. Had to do this for a special construction moto.

10 minutes and you're out of there.

They should have given you a form to fill out and fax to the CHP for inspection. Sounds silly, but faxing is the quickest way to get an appointment. I got a call back shortly after sending the fax and an appointment for a few days later.

Read steps 4 and 5 of the thread in my sig (not all applies to you, however).
