San Jose Mayor gets punched

So dude walks up to the mayor while he was doing his presser. The lone bodyguard was of little help- looked like a high school yard fight except nobody was even trying to throw a punch. I suspect the mayor is calling the acting police chief, and is asking for new and many more bodyguards. Something tells me that bodyguard is getting reassigned to school crosswalks, but some mom will actually kick his ass so who knows. There's no such thing as a polite fight, if you are going hands on- you best go 'effing hands on 100%.

I quick MMA style class should help him with his take downs. Looks like he tried a couple times.

He showed the proper restraint really.
Cracked me up when the passer by was bouncing like a boxer. :laughing

I can only imagine the scrutiny that position must be under- from a non-violence perspective. I don't think "that's" the job though, as by his lack of effective engagement- the mayor was left unprotected. Imagine if dude #1 was merely a distraction for Dudes 2-x to do harm or snatch up the mayor. Overall, I think/hope it wakes up the protective detail- crazy stuff going on all over.

i think not wearing a suit and tie would probably have helped with the takedowns as well. maybe something a little looser fitting at least

He should get one of those stretchy suits they advertise on Insta. The kind you can work out in, do par course, or fight in.

ideally it should be an addidas track suit really. no mistaking the wearer as the FAFO guy in that uniform

Did I miss the punch?

I'd say probably not.

I like martial arts/self defense seminars for what they're trying to do but my opinion is that they give people an over inflated confidence of what they think they can do in [insert situation]. The truth is if you don't keep practicing what you learned and drill it into your brain and body, you're gonna lose it and when it comes to a bad situation where you have to use those skills, they won't be there.

Anything is better than nothing though.

I always wore a clipless tie when I interacted with the public.

Sad that no one, even the mayor or filmer, came to aid.

Mayors have body guards?

For large cities, yeah. It would be a dignitary protection type assignment through the police department. Smaller city mayors aren't going to have this.

Nor seemingly called 911, even with phones in their hands.

Why would they? The police are there.

The officer should have told someone to call. Maybe he did. You can only see so much from that video.

He was busy dancing with the dude.

In downtown San Jose right there, the peedee and essoh are right up the street with cars coming and going all day. Methinks it would be the student body of SJPD a'coming for a call like that- especially since the VTA train deal (also nearby) just a couple years ago.

Unbelievable! Zero Bail and released for assaulting a police officer who needs to protect the Mayor.

Santa Clara County judges appointed by Governor Newsom.

At the next round, Voters should remember this incident when it comes electing judges and other responsible officials.

Irony here is that CA was notable for the last public lynching in the U.S. No, it was not an african descent man, but rather european.

The state has swung from mob rule to lax rules.
