Ruminating about a trakc suit (to rent for my upcoming track day, but maybe someday for purchase) Obviously trying things on is the best bet, but looking online the sizes don't make sense for my gangly self. A 50 or 52 seems like it'll have the right waist and chest sizing, but the arms and inseam will be way short. Even a 60 doesn't quite cut it. Does one expect a shorter inseam on leathers since they'll be under boots? I have tall ADV boots (sidi) so if things are a little short it wouldn't matter as long as the knee bend was in the right spot.

Hard to say. You will be in riding position, so that will give you a little length.
All of my suits over the years have had a shorter-than-street-clothes inseam, but the sleeve landed right behind the wrist.
ADV boots and guantlets will help.
Also remember that a back protector (which should be worn if not an airbag) will soak up some space.
Not very helpful, I know.
Before I bought my last off-the-rack (which still needed tailoring) I went to Cycle Gear San Jose for try-ons, as SF doesn't have leathers anymore, I believe.
Try calling SportBikeTrackGear.com, they have been great about questions and sizing.

Have fun at the track

Good to know. Guess I'll need to source a back protector since I don't think that is included with a leathers rental.. I can technically use my textiles for C group, but I'd like to have leathers in case it turns out I'm not as slow as I expect to be, but really, I'll probably not be carrying enough corner speeds for faster groups.

I'd ask about the back protector; my feeling is that they have them.
And....Sear's is a good track for a smaller bike. I wouldn't neccesarliy think you will be slow for the B groups, especially in a 4-group format, and especially if you ride with Tom;)
It can be kind of a drag to be fast in a slow group if you are riding courteously, of course.
I myself like clear track, and would rather be slower in a faster group, but I know some like the chess game.

How tall are you N4te.

I have something that might fit ya from 20 years ago, but they are like new. Helimot good stuff too.

“I'll probably not be carrying enough corner speeds for faster groups”

You’re probably under estimating your abilities on this one.
Just saying after trying to keep up with you….
Geez….

Not sure if it'd have the best home, it'd get used here and there probably. I ride way more street than track.

I'll ask them, that'd be cool. This is a good point, I just don't wanna be in the way of faster riders in the corners, I too prefer clear track and I do remember getting stuck behind a few folks in C group last time around being mildly annoying.

6'3" and rocking the dad bod these days :laughing

I am 6'-1" so could work. I was a solid 210 when I used these so not the racer boy I used to be. If you are down this way they are in my office.

Another thought is to head to Dainese in SF and try on some of their leathers. They can give you some advice as well.

You really need to try stuff on. Euro brands will fit skinnier than American brands while generally being the same length. Also, the higher end suits will generally fit skinnier too. A skinny suit may allow you to size up, helping with the length. The legs can definitely run a little short as long as the knees aren't restrictive. Arms too. But torso length will probably be a limiting factor. If you cant pull the shoulders on because you are crushing your crotch, you are SOL.

I raced at 5'9" 140# and wore a 48 in Dainese and Sidi. The legs and arms were a little short but fine. Cheap A* suits were so baggy even size 46. Expensive A* was tiny so I had to size up to 50.

get into Cycle Gear and try some stuff on... hopefully you can leave with something to use...
as fits can vary quite a bit...
and manufacturers can change fits year by year too...
I recall ordering a A* suit online once and receiving the wrong size up and it actually ended up working out for me! a positive Oops! it was!
LoL!

I've found that sizes vary wildly, one brands 44 is another's 40. Also how leathers fit standing up is different then sitting on the bike. I'd say what ever you ride in on the 25th will end up being your back up leathers if you keep doing trackdays. Funny little things that don't seem to be a big deal initially become huge annoyances later. Find a back protector and try on leathers with it, they change how leathers fit.
good luck and please get something stylish.

Best way is to try some leathers on. Head to a Cycle Gear and try some on. Usually when people sell leathers they mention their height and weight and that helps tell whether it'll fit you. Luckily I am of average height and weight so it not hard to find one but all the sale stuff is bought out because of that.

And yes you can use back protectors to "fill in" a suit also. I have a leathers that is loose in the chest so that suit I use a back and chest protector to fill it in. Normally I just wear a back protector.

I have a set of 2 piece (zip together) Dainese (sp?) leathers that I used for a couple of track days (and rides). They are in great shape and do not stink (LOL). Size 52 (I think) and I am 6 foot. So, they might work for you. I paid $1200 new, but am willing to sell for $500. If interested, let me know and I will get the exact size and upload a couple of pics.
