The Official 2016/2017 NFL Thread

After the turd the fins left in the pool today I'm not sure that's a bad thing.

Speaking of turds, rough day in Denver for the Raiders. Came out flat, and with Kubiak coaching his final game the Broncos are putting a hurt on the Raiders.

Hoping the Chargers can beat the Chefs, but it ain't looking like it even though Smith was intercepted and the Chargers ran back 90 yards.

Prediction time...

New 9ers GM: Mike Shanahan
New 9er coach: Kyle Shanahan

:laughing

I have zero faith in Kelly's ability to coach a pro ball team, but canning dude after one season with the dumpster fire that he was given doesn't seem reasonable to me. That team was the shitburger express before he even got there.

Not pro (almost, though), but Alabama has relieved Lane Kiffin as OC right before the National Championship game... he has a job lined up at FAU

http://www.cbssports.com/college-fo...-coach-alabama-in-title-game-against-clemson/

Kiffin's career trajectory has been backwards; started as the Raiders head coach, then to Tennessee (HC), then USC (HC), then Alabama (OC), and now HC at a small college most didn't even know had a football team.

Was Al Davis right when he called him a con man?

The question now is who would take the thankless job of coaching this team?
I did hear that Kelly got quite a payoff for his stint at coaching, if that is accurate.
But, if it was hard to find a coach last year, it's got to be much harder this time around.

I guess one up side is that it wouldn't be that tough to improve on this year's record. :laughing

Wow! That is a long slide!
I don't think that I've ever heard of something like this (replacing OC just before title game) happening! I get the feeling that there is more going on not reflected in their flowery words.

a young defense, a new gm coming in, the #2 overall pick, and a shitload of cap space?

Plenty of people. There are still only 32 NFL HC jobs in the world.

Letting Kelly go was dumb, but if you are going to go scorched earth and start with a clean slate, new GM, new HC. I also did read something about Kelly not being able to assemble a good staff, specifically DC which is why Jim O'Neil came on. THye really did Kelly dirty though, although he can go back to almost any big college and he'll be paid a ton by SF to do it.

They already requested to intervew Josh McDaniels for HC (ugh) and Chris Ballard from KC for GM, which would be pretty good.

Jed's press conference was ugly. He basically said to all fans, "I'm the owner. Suck it up, buttercup"

that was the only part that was different from the last three years in which he repeated the same, boring platitudes and clichés. I didn't hear it but apparently he's still name dropping Bill Walsh too.

Jed's only like 32. how old did crazy Al live to? /sigh

Kelly wanted to draft Prescott.

Baalke said no thanks

I'm stunned I tell you. stunned.

ESPN and Fox was predicting over at least 6 coaches fired or this year, making seven with Kubrick stepping down, one of the most in a season.

http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/gallery/nfl-head-coaches-fired-2016-this-season-jets-colts-bears-122816

At 6 already....

Kelly (fired)
Rex Ryan (fired)
Kubiak (retiring)
Fisher (fired)
McCoy (fired)
Bradley (fired)

Kelly wanted to draft Prescott.

Baalke said no thanks

Baalke passed more than a Chip Kelly QB, except it was on talent.

9ers will be paying former execs/coaches nearly $70 million. :facepalm

Man I can't believe that they didn't draft a guy that was popped for a DUI before the draft.

Oh and every other team passed on him 3 times.

Lol here comes the revisionist hindsight crap.

lack of reason is the one consistent hallmark of the york years running the team. the organization has been a catastrophe since the end of the 2013 season. at some point they had to blow it up and start over and hope they luck their way into a great hire.

ed debartolo is a hall of famer, basically because he lucked his way into bill walsh. debartolo didn't have a grand vision, the first few years he owned the team were about as chaotic as the york years have been. shitty initial gm hire, bad head coach choices, terrible w-l record.

so, all you can do as a niner fan is cross your fingers, hope they stumble upon someone who can turn the franchise around and then, most importantly, get the fuck out of the way.

yeah, after all the shit with aldon, ray mcdonald, chris culliver and bruce miller, absolutely no way they take a chance on a qb with a dui
Jed's press conference:

“I own this football team. You don’t dismiss owners....”

:laughing
thank you lowell cohn. did you see the "oh what the fuck now, you asshole" look on jed's face when cohn started asking the question? :laughing

but jed isn't aging well, he's a chubby balding fuck and he probably hasn't made a deal with the devil (niners would be way more successful if he had) so, maybe we'll luck out

yeah, been through that, the players Al Davis passed on in his final years could form an all pro team... :laughing
