Got to coach a kid (19yrs old) in fight IQ and tactical aspects of boxing. The kid punches really fcking hard, and I showed him the nuance of where power is derived from and how to harness it when punches feel “pushed”. We reviewed the Ryan Garcia / Luke Campbell fight as a lesson on
tactical approaches, and I talked about how punching a heavy bag mostly can actually set you back. We were talking about this: if cardio and exercise is your goal, this may not be the place to train. The striking part of our gym is getting more and more serious, and I couldn’t be more stoked.
It was cool and built my confidence as a coach and corner man. I can’t wait until local matches start up again, because I know we have champions in that gym just waiting to get going.
