USMC Helicopter Rescues Injured Motorcyclist in the Desert

As I understand it, with things like, they're purposely designed so as you should not have to worry about the cost. Simply, it shouldn't be a factor in your decision to push the button, or wave 'em down.

How that's managed, I don't know, but its less useful if the choice comes down to dying or ruining your life.

Also, not sure how well the new iPhone satellite services work.
Agreed.

Job 1 is getting the call for help and location out so help is on the way. Everything is else is nice, but "consumer" based not rescue. I could see someone draining their battery yapping on and on about the entire "how this happened" story, the pretty sunset/rise, is that a snake kinda stuff, where are they, how long has it been, call work for me, my bike it totally fuckered, etc.

Maybe, hope so.

We tested a lot of locator products when I was with West Marine and they first came out. SPOT was kind of a toy level as I recall. Been years, but I think it was ACR brand that kicked butt on everything else then Garmin swooped in and just swept the floor- second to none and still is with their InReach line of products.
Really? Hmm its been a while but the paragliders I know used them. Maybe there is better options out there now.

If I came across a freshly downed aircraft, way out in the desert, I'd help.
or anybody else, , ,

They were out doing the milage, and visually found somebody to rescue,
and did.

Yes...but that crew was already out flying that day, regardless. So they saved someone's life while they were at it. I'm a taxpayer and I'm fine with my tax money being used in this way.
Exactly. We forget that training makes our military what it is. If we have the best piolets, it's because they get the quality flight time they need to be the best. Just like riding, you need to practice. This was practice with a payoff. I think My buck-o-nine was well spent here.

Inreach is good but I prefer my zoleo for most things. T-mobile is soon to release Sat service on phones and think iPhones 14 and newer have Sat service for 911 calls.
