Rumor was that the 350 Duke was only slated for India, but this slide was taken from the North America KTM dealer meeting:

I was thinking about tracking down a used DR-Z 400SM but now that I found out about this, I think I'm gonna start saving my pennies...err... silver dollars for 2013.

A 1290 SDR sounds pretty wicked. I can't imagine more power on my SD, but I guess some maniac out there will buy it! :devil

Also, an Adventure 1290 coming for 2014 model year!

Awesome sauce.

Heh. Not in trouble. I think Gabe's just asking cuz it's the first I've ever heard of these bikes coming to N.A. and if it does, that's fairly significant news. (He's a reporter, not a KTM rep)

Gabe,
I just pulled it from one of the KTM dealers that attended the NA Dealer Meeting and posted this shot on teh Facebooks. If you'd like, PM me and I can link you to their page. You can call Scuderia West and verify (assuming they were at the meeting).

The dealer who posted this on the FB is in deep shit. If they're not, they should be.

Esplain please :nerd ?
It seems to do no harm to inform the buying public a bike they might be interested in is in the works v.s. those stupid teaser releases that are spread out over weeks with little real info.

Manufacturers AND dealers guard their roadmaps dearly because the last thing they want is today's customer deciding to wait two years for the better model to come out. Sure they do teasers, but it's on their own terms and timing, usually not more than 6 months from release, especially if it's making a vehicle currently on the floor (or worse, in inventory) obsolete.

If KTM wanted you to see those bikes, they would have done a press release. Usually dealers sign pretty long and binding agreements to keep info from the dealer meeting top secret. This dealer just violated that agreement - he/she could lose his contract with KTM over this. I would call it justified if KTM chose to revoke their dealer agreement.

edit: the Duke 350 is no big deal; it's a new category and KTM would love for customers to hold off of DRZ or WR250 purchases to wait for a KTM. The SuperDuke announcement is a problem... there are still brand new 2008s sitting on dealer floors. If this sees wide distribution, it cuts at least another $1000 off of the already heavily discounted SDs. I'm not sure how the ADVs are doing, but this also cuts about $1000 off of those unless they are consistently sold out.

Hell yeah.

To be quite honest though, I'm more excited about the Moto3 350, and the Freeride E models. Gonna be so good.

Does this mean a Superduke that gets the current RC8R motor? Because the current Superduke has its own motor. There are 3 V-Twin motors in the current KTM line--the enduro/supermoto 990, the Superduke and the RC8. Maybe they will simplify things by using one motor for all 3 lines?

current RC8 has a 1190.

superduke has 990

adv/enduro/SMR/SMT had 950 and now 990

While I do a lot of digging in a lot of KTM forums/sites, I don't mind not being cited as a source. I'm not looking to make it as an online blogger or reporter, so it's all fine with me.

My source for the image still has the original photo up, so I don't know if they've heard from KTM yet. Regardless, they have a huge presence on the web, and I'd be surprised if they got their dealer status taken away for this. It would put a big dent in online distribution of KTM's products in North America if it were.

Who knows, maybe this was KTM's plan all along? Although, as it has been previously stated, 3 year model projections will definitely put a dent in their current sales.

The reason I posted in the first place was that from my perspective, this seemed like old news (the original pic was online for a month when I started this thread.) There have been mentions/copies of the pic posted on Superduke.net and on Facebook, so I figured it was no big deal by now. Ha!

Yes, the enduro/adv motor is the same displacement as the superduke, but it's a different bottom end.
different bottom end? In what way? Which engine does the 990SM/SMR/SMT have?

I think it's the number/type/placement of counterbalancers and plenty of other differences. Go to the KTM website to look for the technical details, but believe me, they use 3 different motors.

The SM/SM-R/SM-T use the 990 Adventure motor.
