OK, I love Dainese gloves but this is the second pair that have popped at the seams in the fingers for me. Both pairs were fitted at the D-Store by D-Store employees. I know many people have issues with quality of Dainese stuff, but lets keep this thread more about suggestions for gloves and less about the quality of Dainese gear.

This is what I have, and I like a lot them with the exception that they wore out before I think they should have:

Criteria:

  • No Dainese, I am down to try something else.
  • I have had a couple pairs of Alpine stars and don't really like them as much, but don't let that dissuade you.
  • I like shorty gloves so that is going to be my first preference. I am open to other suggestions but most likely shorty will be it.
  • Ignoring that I like shorties if you can, a decent amount of protection, with a good feel (movement, etc).
  • Leather. I have textile gloves for extreme cold and/or rain. I wear the leather shorties year round otherwise.
  • Available local to SF to check out. I won't buy gloves I can't go and try on.
  • Below $170, although cheaper is better.

Thanks in advance.

i have a pair of these shorties and they are awesome:

Check em out at RoadRiders in San Jose, that's where i got mine.

Actually anything RACER that fits is awesome. I have the "multitops" as well... but now adays, since i went semi-custom with Helimot gloves, that's all i wear.

I love dainese gear but i'm not a fan of their gloves. i ahve a pair of D gloves at home that's collecting dust.

Held or Racer. Boy has the former, I have the latter. My Racer High Ends have lasted for years and a few track crashes. I finally retired the set I bought in 2007 to scooter duty last year - not because they had any wear or seam fraying of note, but because I wanted a pretty new red pair. Which have done one race crash and one track crash with the gloves and my hands still in good shape.

This..

Also ...
I have 3 years on a set of B11's

2 1/2 on my helimot buffalo pro :)

actually one day i came into the store just to chat and check out some gear. i took my gloves off and left them ont he counter, came back and they were gone.

An asian lady in the back had apparently took them into the back to clean up and add soem stitching that was coming loose. Free of charge! i didnt even ask. i think her OCD kicked in? :) awesome shop.

one thing i cant figure out with the design of the racers was... why only 3 knuckles?

I've had these for about a year/10k miles.

They've done me well. Nice leather, breathe well, very comfortable on and off the bike, no internal seams on the fingers, lots of protection (knuckles, palm, thumb, outside of pinky). Those are my primary gloves. I have gauntlets for the track, and that's about the only time I'm not wearing Rev'it! Curb gloves when I'm on a bike. No sings of falling apart.

:thumbup from me.

My Held Steves just wore out after 5 years. Bought new from Scuderia, I believe they still carry Held.

The thin kangaroo skin palm on my clutch hand finally wore through. I loved them, but I'm considering replacing them with Helimots, or maybe those discounted Phantoms...

Can I ask why you dislike the gauntlet? I feel a bit naked without...

Motostrano carries Racer - you can call/email and see if they have any of the shorties in your size in stock.

Cool, I will talk to them and possibly go down there. Too bad they just shipped an order for me today :laughing

Just preference. I am comfortable in short gloves. Gauntlets feel strange to me and I get hot in them. Crashed in multiple pairs and never had an issue. :dunno

1. Helimot
2. Held
3. Everything else

OP, you could have stopped reading after this post.

Oh, and never, ever, ever, ever buy Held gloves mail order. They're nice gloves but their sizing is so random that you really need to try on the actual pair you buy. Two pairs of the same model in the same size will fit differently.

I wont buy a pair of gloves I can't try on and walk out with. It is a piece of gear I wear every time im on the bike and they need to fit.:thumbup

Actually that pretty much goes for most gear I buy. :laughing

Held Namib, which I have not owned but they have a lot of the same protection as their gauntlet gloves that I do have and like, but in a shorty. Maybe Scuderia carries them or can order them (you can size based on other Helds -- Helds do break in so don't buy too big). $149.

I've had three different models of Helds and they all fit the same in the same numbered size.

Helimot

Helimot

Thick gloves, but by far the best (meaning safest) gloves I've ever owned. I don't know anyone who's switched from them. I've crashed over 30 times (alot of high speed incidents) in mine (a few different pairs) and never had a seam open...never. Very safe, a bit thick, but your hands will thank you if you ever need them.

Excellent gloves.
