Well, I have to say, I've never owned anything but Held gloves and I have crashed in 2 pair, both performed EXCELLENT and saved the palms/sides of my hands.
My roommate was wearing a set of Held gloves when she got hit by a left-turn bandit on a Harley. She was traveling at about 25-30mph through an intersection when they collided. She broke her wrist in the fall, but we were looking at the gloves after, and the area where her wrist broke (a diagonal break across the bone) was right under a big hunk of carbon fiber on the gauntlet. The carbon fiber had an impact mark on it, but wasn't destroyed and seems to have kept its form. We figure it could have been a lot worse for her if it weren't for those gloves.
For me, I'll gladly part with an extra $100-130 if it means I get to keep my hands in tact better than most after my next incident. The current gloves I have are a pair of Akira gloves and I've had 'em for over 3 years with no problems. (plus the kangaroo just gets softer and softer... you can feel everything through this stuff!)
Just some things to think about.
