FINALLY - Lane Sharing is supported in CA

The credit goes to a lot of people. Budman is a member of the committee. We have folks from DMV, OTS, CHP, CALTRANS, MSF, NHTSA, EMS, and SNELL. All of them played a part in this. Some threw up roadblocks and a few of us helped steamroll over them. My contribution was keeping a blowtorch lit under everyone's butts, and not accepting no for an answer.

I'm amazed this got through. THANK YOU to everyone involved!

I hope, instruction on how to do the split, in the reading of drivers, and, speed changes to not be where one shouldn't be when a distracted driver makes the "take Ya out" move.. is done in all schooling sources (MSF being one)...So riders can learn how to do this better...

The better we do it, the better the stats that other states will be using to, make their decisions on.

It will sure work better, if all states have the same law..

This is FANTASTIC NEWS :thumbup:thumbup

And a million thanks to everyone who helped make this happen!

Man, this is AWESOME. Douple super thanks to everyone who helped!

Any idea when the CVC's for violating sharing "rules" are going to hit? a la CVC for sharing too fast or in dangerous conditions?

now for the other 49 states to follow suit.
this one should prove to be interesting as its about what the rider judges as acceptable which may not be what the cops see as acceptable.
4)Consider the total environment in which you are splitting, including the width of the lanes, size of surrounding vehicles, as well as roadway, weather, and lighting conditions.

id guess the same as they are now. travelling at speeds exceeding conditions? so if traffic is moving yet congested at 65 dont be pissed when i split by at 80.

So, practically speaking, nothing changes, right?

Not at all disparaging the effort, this is awesome. Just curious because lane splitting is already legal. Is this just further assurance that it likely won't be made illegal anytime soon, and also an educational thing for riders/drivers/officers?

Educational thing for riders/drivers etc. Instead of the handbook just saying it is dangerous and not recommended.
