Solo trip to Baja by bike...plane ride back...NSFW due to animal carnage!

What a story. Are we going to get more pictures? I am glad you are ok!

You may have been told already, but anything connected to the battery needs to be fused to avoid this problem. Without a fuse a wire can turn into a glowing red heating element if shorted out.

Yeah it was fused. It was a Eklipes bike to bike jumper

My favorite part of exploring is the wonderful people along the road. That was quite an adventure, congrats on making the best of it.

Great story! We might move it to the Adventure Touring forum at some point, but for now it will get more traffic in General. :thumbup

It scared me when you said you were riding at night in Baja. I've heard that's a bad idea, but it was daylight when things went wrong. :dunno

Wow. I'm glad you made it out relatively safely. I expected you to hit an animal at night. Riding at night in Mexico is like playing Russian roulette.

The t-shirt is a classic. I'll keep my eyes peeled for a 22r.

It was not a bad idea, it was an absolutely idiotic idea. I will go back but I will never ride in the dark again. I actually don't have bad images of hitting the goat. I have nightmares of what I could have hit at night. Just imagine being in a ditch for hours if not days. I estimate I put in about 15 to 20 hours in the dark.

Madre de Dios, what a ride! Nothing like seeing one's bike on fire by the side of the road in a strange country, I bet...

Pretty amazing how awesome people can be in the worst of times, though.

Holy Tomoly!!!!

Glad you survived.

Thanks for taking us along for the ride

:ride

Bummer about your bike.

On the other hand, you have a tale to tell that few can equal. And that's priceless.

badass story. ive always dreamed of taking a trip like this but my spanglish is way too terrible.

Sorry to hear about your bike - but there are more important things in life. Sounds like this trip was a nice reminder of what those things are, thanks for sharing with us! :thumbup

Did you lower your psi in the sand pit?

Not at first but eventually did. I blame my stumbles on my lack of dirt, sand experience and the high center of gravity of the bike.

Wow, what an emotional vacation that turned out to be. Luckily you survived it to plan another.

Out of all the millions of KLR crashes daily ,I have never heard of one catching fire. It can be rebuilt!

Sorry, I hate to see them die like that.

Damn! Nice write up! Glad you got out relatively unscathed albeit minus a bike. Good on you for trying to help find an engine for them as well!

Amazing adventure! Thanks for sharing!
