Where to ride?

yuuuup the seashell jumps, i go there everyday just to fuck around maybe get a little air, its the best spot for me to ride since its only 30 seconds from my house :twofinger and actually its not all shell, there is spots with sand and spots with mud/dirt and its also fun to smash through all the trails, and its nice that its so secluded that no one even knows im out there until i come on out!

cept the fc cops on bmw's that creep out there. hopefully you rebuild the lips after youre done so the bmx crew doesnt shat their pants... believe it or not they will call the rollers on you before the residents.

I just updated the first post

no no no the bikers have always been real cool! they love to watch and they dont mind us because there is a seperate section for the mini's, there are 2 mini tracks and a couple mini jumps, personally i like to smash through the endless trails and go cruise and chill on the beeeeeech! ive also been out there with about 5 other minis who i didnt even know, and my mini is plated fyi :twofinger

is there any place near the Santa Cruz boardwalk to ride dirt bikes? I'll be there for the fourth of july weekend and my nephew wants to ride. I don't see any OHV parks but how about other parks like National Forest parks?

Hollister Hills will be your best bet if you have 1/2 the day to explore it.

Metcalf is probably just as close in the San Jose foothills. It has its pro's and cons.

Metcalf has fast singletrack and slow doubletrack (rocky and boring) and it's 1/20 the size of Hollister.
Hollister has fast and slow singletrack and fast doubletrack

i'd go for Hollister and slide around on the doubletrack, then find some singletrack trails to get you by. They opened up a whole new section of singletrack, you could spend all day riding in the new section. Its all fast and easy singletrack. Blue square singletrack despite their diamond rating.

should be about 40-60 minute drive from SC depending on 4th traffic. Definitely worth checking out, probably the top 10 OHV parks in CA

Thanks Kylemtncruzr, but I was looking for something a lot closer. We've been to Hollister and Metcalf. Thought I could find something close that we could do a half day without getting into too much trouble with the rest of the family. I guess we'll have to stick to mountain bikes. :ride

408 MX

If you like moto then you will love 408. The prep is always perfect and it is safe for all levels of riders.

Practice is broken up on busy days to Pro and Int./ Vets. and Beg.and the minis get their own practice as well.

Hope to see some of you at 408MX.

are all these areas gone yet?

I might be biased (duh), but I'd say that places like Metcalf (Metcrap! Luv that 1) & Carnigie only really have 1 thing goin for them. They are close. Thats it!

The best place to ride is where there isnt anyone else. A newb doesn't need any other distractions. The problem is that for you Bayarea guys, you gotta drive a couple of hrs to find something like that.

If you wanna place like that, come on up to the ElDorado Nat. I can put you on dirt rds that run for hundreds of miles.

that looks AMAZING! I need to head up that direction. Does your bike need plates up there?

For National forests in Ca you need a plated bike to ride on the roads and trails (where allowed). But many of them also have OHV areas, where stickered bikes are allowed.

Don't know about OHVs in El Dorado NF, hopefully terdog55 can tell us. Nearest local places are Metcalf, Carnegie, and Hollister Hills.

I far as I know, you only need a CA plate to ride designated roads that are for street legal only.
When you start your ride, and theres still that fresh mtn air with a hint of dew, man! You feel like a million bucks!
You do however, need a red/green sticker to ride the National Forests, as well as a spark arrestor. When you get out of the valley, even a red sticker works.

Ill share my mountains with you guys. Just dont tell anyone else...

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by the bolded part. As a point of clarification, a plate will let you ride anywhere in CA where riding is allowed. A plated bike can ride in any dirtbike park in CA, whether it be USFS, BLM, State or County without any Green or Red Sticker.

you dont NEED a plated bike to ride on trails. A red / green sticker is all that is needed, i.e. the minimum. A "plate" will get you everywhere. The statement was possibly misleading and could be read as you need to have a plate to ride the trails.

The Eldo allows red & green all yr round.

Haha, a confusing thread for sure.

A plate can ride anywhere you can ride a motorcycle, any time of the year that it is legal to ride there.

If you have an unplated bike, to ride in a dirtbike park, you need a green or a red sticker (which is an offroad license plate). Green sticker can ride year round (when open) and there are various restrictions on red sticker bikes. There is a PDF in the Red / Green sticker thread which has all of them.
